SGDB Access Charges From August 2014 the two levels of charge will be basic, £610, and advanced, £1050. Details of what is covered in the two levels are below. The rate of charge will remain at the current level for 2014/15 but will increase in 2015/16 by an anticipated 5% (this may change if costs increase by more than 5%). The full running costs of the building are not covered by the access charges and are subsidised by the Institute. Any members of staff who have research funding and refuse to pay the charge will have it deducted from their PI incentive, any members of staff who are unable to pay the charge should contact Alison Wallace . All occupants in the building must pay either a basic or advanced access charge with the exception of those listed below: MRes students Summer students Undergraduate students Anyone here for a period of less than three months Thesis pending PhD students Core Funded Technicians -see below MPA or ops staff Any staff, student or visitor here for less than a year or working part time will be charged a pro rata access charge unless they have sole occupancy of an office in which case they will pay the full charge or be asked to share an office. Core funded Technicians Core funded technicians working on Institute infrastructure will not pay access charges for the percentage of their time spent on this activity Core Funded technicians working in research groups with or without any salary recoup will pay an access charge in line with the percentage of their time they work on the research The access charges do not include use of the following facilities: Scottish Bioscreening Facility Multi-photon Deltavision Core These are charged on an individual basis. Hand towels and soap for laboratories Water coolers Use of the equipment listed below: Deltavision (DV-RT) (level 5) Improvision systems (levels 5 and 6) Meta 510 Confocal (level 4) IVIS whole animal Imaging system (in JRF) FX pro (located in CRF) Typhoon variable mode imager (level 6) 7500 RT PCR Machine (level 3) 7900 Sequence detector (Level 3) 7500 RT PCR (level 6) Luminex (level 4) Cryotomes (level 4) QIAcube EnVision Multilabel plate reader Ultra and high speed centrifuges (level 6) Cell disruptor (level 6) Microbeta & harvester (levels 4 & 5) Automacs (level 4) Automacs pro (level 4) Automacs pro (level 4) Anaerobic cabinets (level 2) Advanced Access charges £1050 This includes all costs covered by the basic access charges plus access to the Flow Cytometry Facility. The FACS facility has technical support which the Institute contributes 1.2FTE salary costs. Users of the FACS facility will still be billed for consumables and any Institute staff wishing to use FACS that have not paid the Advanced charge will be charged at £40/hr for analysis and £75/hr for cell sorting. This rate will also be applied to external users.
