ROLE OF THIS SECTION: To manage the maintenance, improvement and construction of the Zoos buildings, facilities and grounds. To develop and implement improvements in the Zoo's operations consistent with best practice environmental management and sustainable development. SECTION 5 - SUMMARY OF DUTIES Outcome 1: Coordination of Environmental Management Programs in Zoo Operations; 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 Review, update and coordinate the water quality monitoring program for water bodies within the Zoo grounds Review, update and coordinate waste minimisation and resource recovery planning for organic, construction, general and recyclable waste streams Provide advice and assistance for the development of environmental management plans for Perth Zoo and off site land holdings Coordinate the regular review of the Perth Zoo Asbestos Management Plan with environmental consultants. Develop a coordinated pest management strategy for implementation across the Perth Zoo site Outcome 2: Coordination and Improvement of Sustainability in Zoo Operations; 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 2.6 2.7 Review and advise on system improvements for water conservation, fuel and energy efficiency plans for Perth Zoo and the Byford site thus reducing Perth Zoo’s environmental footprint Develop and maintain databases and spreadsheets detailing water, fuel and energy consumption, waste production and resource recovery for internal and external communication and reporting requirements Generate regular reports for corporate executive and external legislative and policy requirements Assist in the development and implementation of the integrated water management plan and solar initiative for the Perth Site Actively champion a sustainability culture at Perth Zoo for staff and visitors Assist in developing and implementing an ethical and sustainable purchasing supply chain Provide advice on sustainable development principles for works projects at Perth Zoo SECTION 5 - SUMMARY OF DUTIES continued Outcome 3: Facilities & Environmental Services team members work together in an effective and cooperative manner in order to discharge all responsibilities and achieve set goals. 3.1 Plays an active role in developing a team culture that values diversity and encourages and enables people to develop Fosters cooperative relationships with other sections of the Zoo and promotes a culture of quality in the provision of services to other sections 3.2 Outcome 4: A workplace that is safe. 4.1 Ensures all activities under areas of responsibility are performed in a safe manner and in accordance with relevant requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Welfare Act. Seeks to improve safety in the workplace and reports and takes the necessary actions to remedy hazards in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety Welfare Act and the supporting established Perth Zoo policy and guidelines. Undertakes Pre-commencement meetings with Contractors to ensure Health & Safety Compliance of the worksite and monitors the Health & Safety performances of Contractors while on-site. 4.2 4.3 Other: 5.1 5.2 5.3 5.4 5.5 Establish and maintain links with environmental and sustainability experts and industry representatives to create a network of cooperation with internal and external stakeholders. Support the formulation of budgets, monitor expenditure and complete financial administration in the area of environmental management and sustainability. Within this context, the successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to apply the following knowledge and skills to this role: ESSENTIAL 1 2 3 4 5 6 Possession of or progress towards a relevant tertiary qualification such as environmental science, natural resource management, environmental sustainability. Experience in the development and coordination of environmental and/or sustainability programs within an organisation. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including the ability to analyse resolve and respond to complex issues and communicate at a range of levels. Demonstrated experience and competence in management systems, including project management, risk management, information technology. Ability to achieve results with limited supervision in a small team environment. General knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health requirements relevant to minor works operations. DESIRABLE 1 2 3 Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of public sector purchasing/procurement procedures. Experience with GIS and/or spatial mapping technology.
