Winona State University RE Initiative Club Constitution New Club: Adopted Date: April 23, 2015 Existing Date: Waiting for approval by Student Senate Article 1 -- Name The name of this organization is the RE (Recognizing Equality) Initiative Club. Article 2 -- Purpose 1. To learn the skills to become a positive active bystander. 2. To perform PACT (Prevent, Act, Challenge, Teach) training models in real life situations. 3. To engage students and peers into understanding what gender-based violence is. 4. To gain the skills and safety knowledge of being a positive bystander. 5. To give students the knowledge to stop diffusing the responsibility of the bystander effect, and have students become comfortable in confronting a weary situation. 6. To spark the interest in recreating our campus’s culture to a positive culture. 7. To create a community that looks out for each other. 8. To have a club that anyone can engage in so they have a sense of worth and belonging in a club, and that they can find a purpose to engage in our campus’s cultural settings. Article 3 -- Membership 1. Membership requirements will be non--discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with Minnesota Statute 363a. 2. Requirement of RE Initiative club: To create a respectful and positive community of students to engage in and discuss difficult topics that PACT aims to eliminate. 3. Requirements for meetings: The students will attend as many meetings as they choose to do so. 4. Requirements for meetings: The students must participate in active listening and engage in a respectable manner while attending club meetings. 5. Requirements for meetings: Many personal stories will be told during the RE Initiative Club meetings. Personal stories can be shared, but there will be no names or identifying characteristics told in each story. 6. Rules for expulsion: No negative or harmful language may be used towards any members of the RE or outside of the club, or the use of harmful language to pass along a story to non-club members. 7. In addition, all members will be expected to follow all University rules during practice Article 4 -- Executive Board/Advisory Council/Officers, etc. 1. Leadership nomination requirements will be non--discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with Minnesota Statute 363. 2. The positions of leadership in the club will be President and Vice President. The adviser, president, or vice president must attend the club meeting in order to have the meetings proceed. 3. The nomination for President and Vice President will be voluntary and those within the club will run for these positions. The adviser must approve those whom are nominated and accepted for the positions. 4. Elections of President and Vice President will be held at the beginning of each semester. Article 5 -- Meetings 1. Meetings will be held once every two weeks. 2.The purpose of the meetings would to engage in meaningful conversations about ways to engage the community in understanding and practicing positive bystander intervention techniques against acts of gender based violence’s. Article 6 -- Funding 1. DUES: Depends on receiving money from the senate. However, the RE Initiative Club is a member based club that focuses on engaging students in awareness and education, therefore costs and dues will be unnecessary at this time. However, there is always the potential of creating fundraisers for awareness and for traveling expenses. 2. Responsible party for keeping track of the budget: Tamara Berg (adviser) and the RE Initiative club President and Vice President. 3. All money received from the Student Life funds will be held in a WSU Business office account. 4. In the event of the dissolution of the club, all Student Life funds will be returned to the Student Activities Fund Committee of Student Senate for appropriation. Article 7 -- Amendment 1. Process for proposing amendments to the Club Constitution: Simply bring up any amendment, or changes and ideas, to the adviser, president, or vice president of the club. We will propose ideas for amendments to all club members and we will decide to take on the amendment or disregard it as a team. 2. The process of approval for these changes must be first brought up to the President or Vice president of the club. The President will state the changes to the adviser. 3. The RE Initiative Club Constitution must be resubmitted for ratification to the WSU Student Senate at least every two years. Article 8 -- Advisor 1. RE Initiative Adviser: Tamara Berg 2. State the following advisor duties: 1. Adviser can attend any meeting, but their appearance is not required as long as the President or Vice President attends the weekly meeting. 2. The advisor must maintain contact with club and leadership. 3. In conjunction with the responsible party from the club, the advisor, president and vice president of the club, must track the club budget. 4. The advisor and president must maintain current contact information with WSU Student Senate. 5.
