Garden Show Application

When completing this form it is essential that you submit the following:
 Master plan – 2D colour plan showing the garden from above
 Layout plan – 2D black and white plan showing the main elements of the garden and key
dimensions e.g. path widths, spot heights, water dimensions
 Perspective drawing(s) – showing key views of the garden including the views into the
garden that visitors will see
 Construction details – Construction details (text or drawings) describing the construction of
buildings, walls and any other structures (including water features) should be supplied with
this form.
 Signed letter from the sponsor confirming full funding of the garden, or if self-funded,
confirmation of how funding will be achieved.
NB: These drawings form the basis of your application and should be completed to a high standard.
Applications will not be forwarded to the selection panel if information is missing or unreadable, or if
drawings do not clearly convey your intention.
Information about the gardens:









The Show gardens are to be approx 5 x 5 meters in size, although other sizes can be
considered by the organiser on application
Any subject can be covered by the design subject to approval by the organisers.
A scale drawing of the proposed design must be submitted with the application, for
consideration by the organisers
All Gardens to be built up from ground level , no excavations due to the historic nature of
the site.
A membrane is to be installed before build begins to protect the ground
The build-up period for the gardens is to be 5 days
All builds to be completed by the Friday evening with excess material cleared away ready
for the show to open prompt on the Saturday morning
The gardens are to be cleared by the following Wednesday evening [ 29th.] all materials to
be removed by the exhibitor.
Awards will be allocated by the panel of judges in the form of Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt, and
Gold.

2 GARDEN DETAILS
Standard plot size will be 5m x 5m however other sizes will be considered.

NB: Where possible preferred sizes will be accommodated but in some cases designs may need to
be modified according to the space that is available.
From how many sides do you intend the garden to be viewed?

NB: Please note that due to the nature of the site no excavations are possible on site, but building
up is OK.
3 CLIENT’S BRIEF APPLICATION

Please provide a brief for your garden on a separate sheet of paper and attach it alongside your
application.
Why a brief is required:
The brief will provide information to the judging panel to help them assess your garden.
The brief will help you focus on:
WHAT your real or imagined client has asked you to achieve, the garden’s purpose and function.
WHY you have chosen the particular design direction and/or theme and your inspiration for the
garden.
HOW you will construct the garden and in particular with what materials and plants.

Do not include overly detailed descriptions.

space will be made in accordance with the East Midland Flower Show Selection Criteria. Selections
are made with the best possible visitor experience in mind.
