Today, we welcome Lawana Newell as our special music guest. Lawana is the daughter of Nancy Idol and is a faculty member at the Department of Fine Arts at

Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She completed graduate studies in Vocal Performance at the

New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. As an undergraduate she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Church Music and

Music Education from Pfeiffer College, a private Methodist college located in

Misenheimer, NC where she was one of three students nationally chosen to receive a Fellowship of United Methodist Musicians Merit Scholarship. As a soprano soloist, Lawana Newell has performed with the Charlotte Symphony

Orchestra, Knoxville Chamber Orchestra, Enid Symphony Orchestra, McLean

Symphony Orchestra, New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Enid-

Phillips Chorale and Orchestra, Pfeiffer College Concert and Symphonic Choirs and the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Choir. She has performed operatic roles with the University of Oklahoma Opera Theatre and Opera

Workshop, Baylor University Opera Theatre and the New England

Conservatory of Music Opera Theatre. Among her experience in the field of musical theatre are appearances with the Gaslight Theater, Morristown

Community Theater, Winston-Salem Community Theater and the Pfeiffer

College Musical Theatre. Lawana has served on the faculties of Pfeiffer College and Walters State Community College. In addition to her vocal accomplishments, Mrs. Newell is a talented vocal accompanist, choral director and organist. She has had extensive experience developing church music programs including adult, youth, graded children choirs and hand bell programs.

Our sympathies are expressed today to Bill and

Durenda Meyer and family at the recent death of

Bill’s mother, Virginia Meyer, of California. May the

Lord comfort those who grieve.

Koins for Kids: The children will come to you today following the children’s message for your “Koins for Kids’ monthly donations. Your gifts will go to help at the THaKO Orphanage in Haiti.

Sunday, July 20 - Church Committees and Council Meeting: All church work area committees will meet at today at 6:00 p.m. with our regular covered dish meal, followed by the Church Council meeting at 6:45. The Worship Committee will be in charge of setup and cleanup.

Renewal Services on the nights of the 3 rd , 10 th , 17 th , and 24 th . Worship will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by refreshments in the fellowship hall. A refreshment signup sheet is placed on the fellowship hall for those groups who are willing to sponsor one of the receptions.

Main Street United Methodist Church and will be attended by church choir members from across the Piedmont. Please plan to attend this exciting event as we prepare for a year of music ministry.
