August 14, 2015 Dear Wrightstown Elementary School Families, I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the last few weeks of summer vacation! I trust that you found time to recharge and gear up for another exciting school year! I enjoyed the summer and the extra time I was able to spend with Nolan. My family spent some time in Hilton Head, SC and moved into our new home in Doylestown. It certainly has been a busy summer! Let me start by welcoming you back to the 2015-16 school year! I am looking forward to the new school year as we establish our newly reconfigured building as a K-4 school. As we go through a year of transition, we will continue to keep “students first” as our guiding principle and work together to best serve our children. Without question, Wrightstown students are going to have another great year! As you know, a large contribution to your child/rens’ success is the partnership we have established between home and school. It is my hope this strong collaboration will continue in this new school year. This year we will welcome 33 Kindergarten students to our Wrightstown family. We are excited to get to know our new friends. There is also an update on staff due to movement within the district, grade level changes and maternity leaves. Please join me in welcoming new and some returning staff to our school community: Ms. Danielle Udis Grade 3: additional section Ms. Kristina Kramarev Grade 3: Mrs. Schubert’s maternity leave Mrs. Jennifer French Humanities: Grade 4 Mrs. Susan Keen Title I Mrs. Laura Follmer Library Mrs. Marian Heffren Art Mrs. Sandy Pierce Grade 1 & 2 Learning Support Ms. Kelli Hamm Grade K & 3 Learning Support Mrs. Carrie McGovern (formerly Rinehimer) Grade 4 Learning Support Over the summer Mrs. Jeanne Bushar, who served as an ELL Teacher Assistant, has decided to retire. We will miss Mrs. Bushar and thank her for her good work with students. Our school nurse, Dana Daniels, will not be starting the school year with us as she recovers from a recent surgery. We anticipate Mrs. Daniels to be out for the month of September. Stephanie Mallee will fill in Mrs. Daniels’ absence. This year we are happy to announce we will receive Title I reading support. This government funded program provides supplemental reading assistance to children in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Children remain in the Title I program for the entire school year and are invited to attend a free academic camp in the summer. At Wrightstown Elementary, children are recommended by their classroom teacher, as well as Mrs. Etgen, the WES Literacy Specialist. Beginning Monday, August 17, 2015 the Home Access Center (HAC) will be open with your child’s homeroom information. Supply lists can be found on individual teachers’ websites and on the front page of the school website. You will have an opportunity to become more familiar with your child’s teacher at Back to School Night. Back to School Night will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Please refer to the attached letter for specific information. This year Wrightstown is going GREEN! The PTO will be providing most information via email. There may be a few exceptions but please expect most information to be sent via email and posted to our website. Please continue to refer to our school website and the E-Friday folder for information. Since the beginning of July contractors have been working to complete work inside and outside of the building. As you know, three of our modulars have been removed to bring these classes inside the building. Two modulars will remain on the school campus to serve as storage for this year only. Partitions have been added to two classrooms in the intermediate hallway. These classrooms were restructured to accommodate the classrooms coming in from the modular units. The new music classroom, which is located at the very end of the intermediate hallway, has been outfitted to serve as a music classroom with sound proof walls and door. A double door has been installed in the wall across from the APR to allow the transition of the Champions Program (now housed in the APR) to move their equipment and supplies fluidly. There may be a few new faces at arrival and dismissal in the morning and afternoon. Ms. Harris will be joined by Mrs. Davis to greet families and buses each morning and afternoon. Information for students who are participating in the WES/NES transportation plan will be forthcoming once plans are finalized. Also, this is a reminder to families that drop off children in the morning. Please be sure to come through the car rider lane in the morning to drop off or park your car at the side lot. Students should not be dropped off in the parking lot to cross over into the building. Student safety is our priority and we thank you in advance for your cooperation. As we look at the year ahead, the staff at Wrightstown will continue to align our focus with building needs identified through school wide data and new initiatives. Such areas of focus will concentrate on authentic student engagement and Restorative Practices. The Social Emotional Learning Committee will continue work on The 7 Habits of Happy Kids and our Positive Behavioral Support Plan. During the 2014-2015 school year we implemented the Caught Soaring Above and Beyond postcards. This recognition is built from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids where students, in all grades, have the opportunity to demonstrate any of the 7 habits. I appreciate the good work the Wrightstown teaching staff has begun and look forward to continuing this work in September. As educational standards continue to rise we must constantly be looking at our practices to ensure our students are prepared to achieve!
