Page 1 of 3 CAPPS 31st ANNUAL CONFERENCE | REQUEST FOR BREAKOUT SESSION PROPOSALS Request for Breakout Session Proposals “Strong Students, Proud Graduates” CAPPS 31st Annual Conference October 7-9, 2015 Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine | San Diego, CA Target Audience: CAPPS is expecting approximately 250 decision makers from private postsecondary institutions throughout California; including owners, presidents, vicepresidents, directors, department managers, and other senior executive personnel. Session Tracks TRACK #1: Enrolling Future Graduates Track focus: engagement and information, admissions, marketing, and social media. Example session topics include: marketing with a focus on enrolling future graduates; the use of mobile apps and texting and the impact on conversion rates; the benefits and pitfalls of using traditional media vs. online; how to combat falling enrollment rates; how to positively impact start rates; impactful campus tours. TRACK #2: Providing the Best Education Track focus: education trends and technology Example session topics include: the use of virtual labs in technical education; the impact of soft skills on outcomes; utilizing e-books and e-libraries and the impact on student engagement; strategies for promoting student success via distance education; smartphones and tablets as classroom resources; educational apps in classrooms or clinicals; new program research and development; effective delivery of online education; employers input on industry trends and expectations of entry-level workers. TRACK #3: Ensuring Student Success Track focus: school management and operations; compliance and regulatory; strong, compliant operations Example session topics include: Title IX compliance; outcome disclosures and misrepresentation law; compliant Clery Act disclosures; biennial review of drug and alcohol programs; talent recruitment, hiring, and retention; GE update; best practices in compliance at other institutions, common threads of AG complaints across the nation; how to manage 90/10; how to identify industry needs/future programs for America’s Workforce. TRACK #4: Optimizing the Student Experience Track focus: employment, career and student services Example sessions include: independent 3rd party audits and verifications; strategies for driving retention and completion through student advising; outreaching and partnering with employers; how to build a successful Alumni Association; career services from a gainful employment perspective (what qualifies as a placement); career services from an accreditation perspective (what qualifies as a placement). Session Formats: All breakout sessions are 75 minutes in length. Sessions can be in any format (or combination of formats) that supports the learning outcomes, including demonstrations, moderated panels, discussion/Q&A. Idea Wave Format: One of the 75-minute breakout sessions will be presented in the Idea Wave format. 8-10 speakers will each have 5-7 minutes each to present 5 tips/best-practices/thought-starters. Session is connected to the conference theme, “Strong Students, Proud Graduates”. Session topic is timely and engaging with clear goals and takeaways for participants. Session does not promote a specific company, product, or service. Session is designed for an intermediate-to-advanced audience, while also appealing to beginners. You MUST be a CAPPS Member to submit a proposal. Session MUST include confirmed co-presenter(s) from a CAPPS Member School or a California School. (Please note that Idea Wave proposals do not require a school co-presenter) Important Dates June 26: Deadline for submission of proposals July 31: Notifications on Accepted Proposals sent out September 28: Final presentation files due to CAPPS Please complete ALL of the information below.
