ANCIENT LANDS PROJECT
*OVERVIEW
Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social
structures of the early civilizations of an ancient culture of their choice. It can be any
ancient culture in the world, but it must have been a culture that was in place by 500
BCE. Each component of this project will have a different due date, which will be on the
website calendar as well as listed below. Only five students can work with one culture,
so reserve your favorite today!
Ancient Lands culture selections due by March 25, 2015
*COMPONENTS
1) Research Report—40 points—due APRIL 27, 2015
Start by researching your civilization. Fill the provided pages with facts about geography,
politics, economy, religion, and social structure. It is not necessary to write them in paragraph
form. Turn in a report folder that includes:
*A five-paragraph report on your culture, including some of the areas from your
research.
* Hand drawn map, in full color, that includes the location in the world, physical
features,
and major cities. Title the map with the name of your culture and your
name. Make it the
cover of your report.
*Picture, hand drawn, of some aspect of your culture.
*Bibliography: Make sure you list sites, books, and other sources correctly.
2) Poster—10 points—due April 1, 2015
The poster is a 36” by 30” HORIZONTAL depiction of your culture. It can be a
scene set there, or an object, god, monument, etc. Paint the culture (Egypt, Israel, etc.)
name on the poster, and don’t forget to put your name on the back.
2) Float—15 points—due April 15, 2015
The float is a decorated shoe box that depicts a scene from your culture in three
dimensions. You can use paper, clay, figurines—whatever resources you can find.
Make sure all four sides are decorated as well as the top!
3) Minecraft Ancient Civilization—20 points—due April 27, 2015
You will work in a team of five students to build a replica of your ancient
civilization in Minecraft in a designated area. You must build five DIFFERENT
landmarks within the given boundaries. You will work together with your team to create
a cohesive representation of your civilization.
4) Artifact—15 points—due April 29, 2015
The artifact is a handmade object from that time. It can be a helmet, shield, vase,
jewelry, or tool. Weapons are discouraged. Your artifact should be big enough to cover
roughly 1/3 of your desk.
The culminating event will be APRIL 30 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
