Job Title: Department: Who you report to: Who reports to you: Salary: Probation Period: Holiday entitlement: Costume Maker Wardrobe Head of Wardrobe Apprentice costume makers and casual wardrobe staff £20,700 (Officer grade 2) 3 months 20 rising to 25 days + public holidays Background: The Senior Costume Maker (cutter) works as part of the wardrobe team to deliver the costume needs for all productions, events and activities inside and outside of the building. The aim of your job is: To provide excellent customer service to customers and visitors to The REP To ensure the safety, comfort and wellbeing of customers and staff at all times To construct costumes and accessories to a high standard To accurately interpret design briefs To maintain and repair costumes To maintain standards of quality in all areas of work To ensure excellent communication between departments and teams To actively contribute to the running of the wardrobe department To deputise for the Head of Wardrobe as required What your main duties cover: Making of costume and accessories to designers’ briefs Dyeing, treating and breaking down of costume and accessories Management and maintenance of the costume stock and stores Supervision of shows as and when required Close liaison with costume designers to ensure design realisation Sourcing and buying or hiring of costume and accessories Maintenance of costume during performance runs and as required Research of design and costume history to ensure authenticity in delivery Liaison and collaboration with other production departments Maintenance of wardrobe department equipment and stock Contribution of proposals for the improvement of the wardrobe department and its processes Effective management of resources, maximising income and minimising expenditure wherever possible Facilitate costume hires from the costume stock and stores General: Deputise for Head of Wardrobe Maintain a high standard of appearance when working with the public Deliver duties at venues outside of The REP and Birmingham Liaise with relevant Library of Birmingham staff as and when necessary Support and promote all company policy, with specific attention to Equality & Diversity, Customer Care, Health & Safety and Data Protection Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times with particular regard to the health, safety and welfare of customers, visitors, staff and yourself Support the organisation and its staff through the effective use of the performance management system Any other reasonable duties required to ensure the smooth running of the wardrobe department Qualifications IOSH is desirable First Aid certificate is desirable CLAIT or ECDL is desirable Full clean driving licence is essential Previous Experience Extensive knowledge and experience of costume construction, dyeing and breaking down Experience of working in a producing theatre or similar environment Personal attitudes: Positive, proactive, self motivated and flexible approach Genuine interest in the Arts Able to manage time effectively Ability to cope with physically demanding work Be a logical and effective problem solver and decision maker Able to carry out work under pressure and maintain good humour and diplomacy A willingness to work evenings, overnight and at weekends when necessary A desire to learn and develop Be able to show initiative and resilience when dealing with change Competencies: The REP uses a competency framework to describe the abilities and personal attributes that are displayed by people who are successful in this particular position.
