Athlete Fundraising Program
Help Those in Need While Doing What You Love
Athletes, here’s your chance to enhance your race experience while making a real and immediate
difference in the lives of cancer patients in your community.
Who We Are
STOMP the Monster™ NC is a 501(c) 3, nonprofit organization that provides financial
assistance to patients across North Carolina who are actively undergoing treatment for cancer.
These funds allow cancer patients to pay critical expenses, including rent, utilities, car payments,
child care, transportation, and groceries, as well as medications and medical bills.
STOMP the Monster™ NC is entirely volunteer-run. We rely on the support of companies and
individuals like you who contribute their time and talent to help make a difference in the lives of
cancer patients.

More About STOMP the Monster NC
Seth Grumet, a New Jersey Ironman athlete and father of three, founded STOMP the Monster in
2010 while undergoing his own cancer treatment. At that time, Seth discovered that many people
don’t have the support they need to afford their treatments and daily living expenses—and he
wanted to make a difference.
STOMP the Monster NC president Susan Blumenthal, a physician assistant in oncology, saw this
need daily in her practice and was inspired by her friend Seth to establish a local chapter.
Tips For Your Personal Fundraising Page
When you become part of Team STOMP, you will receive a personal donation webpage that
includes the most important information about STOMP the Monster™ NC and our mission.
Think of this standardized page as a starting point that you can customize and call your own. For
the most effective donation campaign, be sure to follow these guidelines:




Write a message that explains why you are participating in this race event. If you have a
personal connection to STOMP the Monster or its mission, tell your supporters about it
Describe what this event means to you personally—and why the support of your family,
friends, and neighbors is so important.
Include a photo of yourself or of the person you are honoring. Or, use a photo or
logo representing the race event. (This is usually available through the event’s
website.)

patients. Links to social media will be included on the personal donation webpage for
easy sharing.

10 Great Fundraising Ideas
1. Start early! You are going to have a lot on your plate. If your page is up, you can start the
donations coming in while you are getting those training workouts in!
2. Do not think of fundraising as “asking for money.” You are working to help fund an
organization that helps cancer patients when they need it most—during their battle with the
disease.
3. Do not leave anyone out. You will be surprised who will come through for you. You are doing
an amazing thing—be it running a race, competing in a triathlon, or riding in a cycling event—
and others will want to support your efforts! Also, don't make assumptions about what others can
give. Put the request out there—you’ll find that people will do what they can.
4. Count on your friends. Have your buddies spread the word for you. They may even want to
throw a fundraising party (in which case you can hold a raffle or suggest a donation at the door).
5. Make the most of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Social media can
be a great way to promote your sponsored event. Create a Facebook group and keep contacts in
the loop with regular status updates and messages to ensure your event remains fresh in their
minds.
6. Ask your co-workers to support you. Also check to see if your company has a "company
matching gifts" program.
7. Vary your strategies. Create your own combination of social media, emails, letters, word of
mouth, and get-togethers. The most successful fundraisers use multiple methods to raise funds.
8. Network! Create a list of your communities—perhaps a running group, book club, and play
group—and let them know what you are up to. You’ll be surprised how many people will
support your efforts. Remember, donations don’t have to be big. Many successful campaigns are
founded on donations of $1 per mile. It adds up!
9. Collect cash and checks if offered. Many donors are interested in giving on the spot.
10. Ask! Ask! Ask! Remember, you are doing an extraordinary thing—training for a challenging
athletic event and helping people with cancer.
