Materials: Notes, The American Journey Textbook (the red book), colored pencils. Use the following pages,
along with your notes, to help you complete this project. Pages 75, 77, 83, 87.
Check off as you complete each task.
Map One – The Original 13 Colonies
1. ___ Name the colonies on the map. NO ABBREVIATIONS!
2. ___ Use 3 different colors to show the groupings of the original 13 colonies into 3 colonial
regions: New England (4 colonies – pg. 77), Middle Atlantic (4 colonies – pg. 83), and
South (5 colonies pg. 87).
3. ___ Create a legend for the colors you used.
4. ___ Include the date that each colony was founded on each colony.
5. ___ Create a map title.
Total: 31 points – 13 colonies, 13 dates, title and neatness 5 points
Map Two – Economic Activities Map
1. ___ Using the maps from the book on the pages above, create symbols for the economic
activities in your legend.
2. ___ Draw your created symbols on the correct regions on your map.
Total: 30 points. 15 points for your symbols (neatness and color count). 15 for proper
location. Remember, fishing was found in all colonies. Put your symbol where it is MOST
important.

Livestock, Corn, Shipbuilding, Lobsters, Apples
