RtII, response to intervention and instruction, is a program to help identify and assist all students who are struggling with reading and math. The first element in RtII includes a universal screening for all students. All students are assessed on skills and identified for additional help in areas of need. The second element is a tiered system of intervention delivery that becomes more intense as needed. Based on results from the universal screener, students are assigned a tier of intervention. Tier One- Core Instruction- It is what all students receive. Tier Two- Targeted Intervention- Students receive additional instruction in areas of needed Tier Three-Intensive Intervention- Students receive additional interventions specifically tailored to his/her needs and is intensively focused. The third element is use of evidencedbased interventions to improve student performance. By definition, these are research-based methods with a proven “track record” of effectiveness with the student’s particular area of difficulty. All students will be screened in September. Letters will be sent home for students assigned to tiers 2 and 3. If you have any questions about this, please contact your child’s teacher. The fourth element is progress monitoring. Student progress in response to the interventions is documented. This data shows if the intervention is working or not. When will my child receive this tiered intervention? The fifth element is reviewing the data from progress monitoring to make informed decisions about a student’s learning. _______________________________ At Cleona Elementary, the RtII period is called WIN TIME. WIN stands for What I Need Time. All students receive a 30-minute intervention period Monday thru Thursday. Fridays are used for progress monitoring students. What happens if my child is not showing progress? Your child’s progress will be closely monitored. If they are not making adequate progress our RtII Team will review, make a determination regarding the best course of action and update you accordingly.
