Head of Learning and Teaching
The Head of Learning and Teaching is a member of Marian College’s Leadership Team. The
Leadership Team is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the College and that the
College is faithful to its mission. Members of the Leadership Team have two components to
their role. The first is to share the leadership of Marian College with the Principal and to
provide support, advice and collegiality for the Principal.
The second is to carry out the duties attached to their specific role.
These include:
 Working effectively and collegially with staff to identify the most appropriate teaching
and learning styles to best meet the individual students in their classes.
 Responsibility for developing an overall vision for learning and teaching at the
college, and communicating this vision to staff.
 Investigation and implementation of new learning programs at the College.
 Encouraging staff to working as teams and share resources in the delivery of
curriculum at the college.
 Investigation and implementation of fundamental learning programs to assist staff to
differentiate learning in the classroom.
 Coordination of staff development programs in the area of curriculum.
 Responsibility for ensuring staff are accessing relevant and essential internal and
external professional development and making arrangements for the recording of
these.
 Coordination of the Marian College Professional Development Program at the college
(MCPD)
 Support Curriculum Team Leaders in meeting the requirements of all mandated
curriculum e.g. AUSVELS, VCE, National Curriculum.
 Responsibility for the implementation of the National Curriculum at the college.
 Working with Curriculum Team Leaders to ensure appropriate documentation of
course material on SIMON.
 To facilitate the ongoing process of developing policies related to learning and
teaching.
 To keep up to date with current teaching and learning strategies through reading, inservices, meetings and conferences
 To represent Marian College at all CEO and other external Curriculum gatherings.
E.g. Curriculum Team Leaders meetings etc.
 Coordination of meetings between the Head of Learning and Teaching and the
Curriculum Team Leaders.


To be the convener of the Stewardship Council Policy Committee.
To be convener of the IT Committee which should meet fortnightly with Business
Manager to plan for 1:1 computer program and general IT needs of the college.

Ensure that the recommendations of the Whole School Review are fully implemented
in consultation with the Curriculum Team Leaders.
