Students will learn and apply reading skills and strategies to comprehend grade level text
Knowledge of print…..
Students will demonstrate knowledge of concepts of print
*identify variations in print (size, upper and lower case)
*purpose of print (explains that print carries information)
*voice to print match (tracking)
*words are made up of letters (phonics and reading program)
*parts of a book (cover, pages, title author, illustrator)
*directionality (print reads from left to right/top to bottom)
*punctuation (period, exclamation mark, question mark)
Phonological awareness…….
Students will demonstrate phonological awareness through oral activities
*segment spoken sentences into words
*identify and produce oral rhyme
*blend and segment syllable sounds in spoken words (ex. cupcake, birthday)
*blend spoken onsets and rhymes to form simple words (ex. v-an, gr-ab)
*Segment onsets and rhymes orally
