PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION PAPER
During the student teaching semester, each teacher candidate will revisit his/her original Philosophy of
Education paper written during EDUC 112/114. The purpose of this exercise is to reflect on and articulate
growth as a result of experiences during the teacher education program.
Part II of the original assignment focused on five (5) distinct areas of beliefs that comprise one’s
philosophy of education, including:
1. Beliefs about Teaching and Learning
2. Beliefs about Students
3. Beliefs about Knowledge
4. Beliefs about What is Worth Knowing
5. Beliefs about a Christian Worldview and Professional Practice
For this assignment, teacher candidates are asked to do the following for Section 5: Beliefs about a
Christian Worldview and Professional Practice:
1. Summarize what was written in the EDUC 112/114 paper.
Ask yourself What key points did I make in my philosophy of education paper written in EDUC
112/114 regarding my “beliefs about a Christian worldview and professional practice”?
2. Indicate how beliefs, stated in the original paper, have been affirmed and/or have changed as a
result of various experiences.
Ask yourself What experiences and/or new understandings might I describe that would provide
evidence that my particular beliefs about a Christian worldview and professional practice
were confirmed or changed? Provide evidence to support what was stated in #2 concerning beliefs that
have been affirmed or
changed. This evidence might include:
a. descriptions of particular experiences such as specific interactions with students
b. learning theories and best practices in teaching you’ve learned during your program
c. experiences applying what you have learned
d. discussions with the cooperating teacher or other education professionals
Ask yourself –
•What are the future implications for these beliefs and philosophies? How will you integrate them into
your future classroom?
