SGA Formal Meeting Minutes Sunday, November 2nd, 2014 The meeting began at 8:03PM. I. Deans Report No deans were present at the meeting. II. Minutes The minutes from Sunday, October 19 were approved. III. Executive Board Report Michael Loginoff: The affirmation task force is continuing to meet and plan campaigns. Jed has been in conversation with PPD for the display of vandalized items in Pulver. Additionally, the task force has begun to contact custodians around campus for a poster campaign. Mike is in contact with Emily Schusterbauer about starting a new campaign for sexual awareness with the slogan, “Be a Mule Not an Ass and Get Your Hands Off Mine.” Justin Deckert: Justin sent an email out last week to the President’s Council about three programs for the month. He is still looking for people to help out with Military Appreciation Day and Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day. Also, SGA will be sponsoring coffee in the library during finals week. Finally, Justin and Mike are going to work on getting dorm mailboxes for class and dorm presidents. Connor Clancy: The SPA delivery service will be launching this Thursday. The publicity for Military Appreciation Day will begin shortly. The last Colby Report was a great success. Connor will start working with the Publicity Committee to get another Colby Report ready. Mike will be talking about TV monitors in dining halls with CAC next week. Connor is still working on getting a live cut-out of Justin. Connor is starting to think about programming during Jan Plan. Dorm letters are due on Tuesday at noon. Osman Bah: Osman has been spearheading the Faculty Staff Appreciation. So far, there are three CAs and two SGA members working on this event. They met today to plan details. Osman will keep us updated on any other information. Eva Lauer: The informal meeting next week will be at 7:30 instead of 8. In addition, there will be a survey sent out about the off campus shuttle. Shane Rogers: There will be a workshop on November 20th called Moving the Race Conversation Forward. Shane has started to work on programming surrounding MLK day. The goal is to get four activists to sit on a panel for MLK day. Finally, Jeb Waters will be the next Story Time speaker on Sunday, November 9. IV. Community Forum No members spoke during this time. V. Old Business Motion 1: Kaitlyn O’Connell recommended that the changes of the counseling services recommended by Eric Johnson be passed on to the College Affairs Committee. These changes (an addition of an administrative assistant, additional staff, larger-scale renovations of the space, etc.) are all aimed to better serve our students' mental health and to enable necessary and beneficial preventative help that can then be provided by the center. The motion was moved to question and seconded. The motion passed unanimously. VI. New Business Committee Reports: Academic Affairs Committee: The committee discussed the proposal to add a sociology minor. Admissions and Financial Aid Committee: They will be having a meeting on November 6th. Advisory Committee on Off-Campus Study: The committee has not yet met. Financial Priorities Committee: The committee met on Tuesday for the first time. They discussed Colby’s budget relative to other NESCACs. Independent Study Committee: Will is going to get in touch with Dean Greenwood about meeting. Information Technology Committee: There are no current updates. Library Committee: The committee talked about bringing some of the books back to the library. College Affairs Committee: The committee continued to talk about campus lighting and the instillation of the sidewalk leading towards the Athletics Center. They will be bringing up the counseling services motion at their next meeting. Athletics Advisory Committee: Dan has attempted to be in touch with Marcella, but he has not heard back. Cultural Events Committee: They committee has not met since their first meeting. Healthcare Advisory Committee: The committee has not recently met. Student Security Advisory Committee: The committee meets biweekly. Multicultural Affairs Committee/ Committee on Race and Racism: The committees have met to talk about how to merge the committees and how to move the committee forward. Bias Incident Prevention and Response (BIPR): BIPR will be bringing the workshop, Moving the Race Conversation Forward. They also worked to prevent inappropriate Halloween costumes. Traditions Committee: The committee is currently planning Fall Ball, Spontaneous Fun Day, and programming for Jan Plan. Housing and Facilities Advisory Committee: HFAC still meets weekly. They talked about the possibility of revising dorm swiping restrictions. Dining Services Committee: The SPA delivery service starts on Thursday. Dorm Presidents should send out information in their newsletters. Publicity Committee: The committee did not meet last week, but will meet on Monday. Alumni Relations Committee: The committee met last week for the first time to discuss goals and plans. J-Board: J-Board has had no reason to meet. Additional new business: Joe Whitfield is working on getting benefits for students who work in the bookstore. Eliza invited anyone to join in on planning for Spontaneous Fun Day. They will be having a meeting Monday at 7PM in the SGA office. The meeting ended at 8:23.
