Seawolf Student Leader Award
Fall 2012
Purpose
Actively engaging students in intentionally designed and meaningful student leadership experiences is a fundamental purpose
of UAA’s Division of Student Development. Student leadership experiences benefit students, the university, and society in
many ways. Students engaged in these experiences develop strong leadership skills for life, have a deeper understanding of
inter-personal dynamics, and experience more positive personal growth and development. Quality student leadership
experiences contribute to UAA’s overall learning environment, increase student retention, engage students in university
decision-making and policy development; enhance student, faculty, and staff recruitment efforts, and create loyal alumni.
The Seawolf Student Leader Award recognizes student leaders who, through their leadership, involvement, and commitment,
made significant contributions to campus life. Students are recognized for leadership contributions that go above and beyond
the norm, while sustaining quality academic performance.

committee

Awarding Process
The Seawolf Student Leader Award Selection Committee is appointed by the Dean of Students and composed of two
faculty/staff members and two students not applying for the Seawolf Student Leader Award. After verifying eligibility, the
committee evaluates the application materials based on accuracy and thoroughness of application materials, academic
performance, breadth of participation in student leadership experiences, depth of involvement in student leadership
experiences, and significance of contributions to campus life.
Award recipients receive up to $1500 in tuition credit for Spring 2012, a Seawolf lapel pin, and certificate of recognition.
Special Considerations
The number of actual awards available each semester varies. All applicants are notified of their award status within ten
days following the committee’s decision. Tuition credit recipients must be admitted to the University of Alaska Anchorage
(Goose Lake Campus). The tuition credit may only be used for Anchorage campus classes that are not self-support and used in
the Fall 2012 semester. Tuition credit recipients must meet all published and unpublished eligibility requirements. If, after
informing a recipient they are receiving a tuition credit waiver, the University determines they are not eligible for a tuition
credit waiver; the recipient will retain the Seawolf Student Leader Award distinction, but will not receive any additional
consideration in place of the forgone tuition credit wavier.
Application Deadline
To be considered for the Seawolf Student Leader Award, a complete application must be received by the Student Clubs and
Greek Life staff in Student Union 210 by 5pm on Friday, October 19th, 2012.
