UAA Staff Development Day Committee Planning Meeting – January 14
Friday, January 14 – Noon-1 p.m.
University Lake Building, Conference Room 104
This year’s event is scheduled for Thursday, May 12.
The Development Day Committee will be meeting regularly and this is a great opportunity for
everyone throughout UAA to assist in making Staff Development Day happen.
What can you do? Chair or co-chair one of the committees or volunteer on Development Day
itself. If you are a supervisor, encourage your employees to participate. If you are in Kenai,
Kodiak, Mat-Su, Homer or Seward and want to help, please let Betty Hernandez –
anbah4@uaa.alaska.edu or 786-1733 if you wish to participate in the meeting by conference
call.
Alumni Relations
The UAA Alumni Association is excited to welcome Eric Tuott B.A. ‘00 to the UAA Alumni
Association board of directors. Eric was born and raised in Anchorage and attended UAA from
1995-2000. He was a standout in Seawolf athletics, playing hockey for four years and
graduating with a degree in economics. Since then, Eric has been a firefighter with the
Anchorage Fire Department and is active in the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF)
Union. The IAFF is dedicated to charitable activities and Eric takes an active role in these efforts.
Please join me in welcoming Eric to your Alumni Association Board! He is dependable,
intelligent and a die-hard Seawolf!

UAA Annual Giving’s micro-site has been up and running since September and the site has been
a smash hit with our growing online community! Over 1,000 people have connected with UAA
by updating their contact information, sharing great memories of their time at UAA, answering
our polling questions, participating in events on campus and reconnecting with their university.
Go the Social Seawolves tab: Learn more about the events, lectures and performances taking
place on campus everyday! You can also find important information about membership with
the Alumni Association.
Go to the Support a Seawolf tab: Join over 3,390 alumni and friends who have chosen to make
a charitable gift to UAA. You can make a difference in the lives of UAA’s students.
Go the Seeking Seawolves: tab: Reconnect with your university! Update your contact
information today and you will be entered into a drawing to win a free Nook e-book reader!

The Annual Giving Phonation has raised over $96,000 and over 1200 donors. If anyone is
interested in coming by and saying hi to the students we are happy to have you. Please call Julia
Martinez, Senior Dir of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, 786-1278.
Development
Notable recent major gifts:
 The Rasmuson Foundation donated $243,000 for ANSEP Program participation in a
Regional Math, Science and Engineering Student Cohort Intensive in association with
Bethel Regional High School and Yuut Elitnaurviat.

Northrim Bank donated $100,000 for ISER Economic and Fiscal Policy research as part of
a 3-year, $300,000 total gift.

Icicle Seafoods contributed a total of $200,000 to a variety of UA programs, including to
ISER for research on Alaska’s fishing industry and seafood markets, Kodiak College
general support, Kenai Peninsula College scholarship support, Kachemak Bay Campus
Learning Center, and UAF and UAS programs.

Pebble Limited Partnership contributed $100,000 for Economic Geology Faculty
