Supplemental Information
The supplementary information Table 1 has six information columns, including number of
products (1-294), eol, product names, number of similar products combined, applications, and
specific use in the products (usually where the nanoproduct is located). The first column shows
the sequential number given the nano-product groups (294) obtained from the categorization of
the PEN CPI nano product list of 1014 nano-products. The column, called “number of similar
products combined”, shows the number of repetitions for that single product in the PEN CPI and
thus totals 1,014 nano-products. For example, in 1,014 nano-products, the PEN CPI used four
battery applications, so we have four in the column corresponding to all these batteries. The nano
material column expresses where the nano is used in that particular product. Again without
defining where the nano is we cannot decide final destination of the product because physical
and chemical properties of nanomaterials can be changed, so recyclability options may be
reduced.
