Oct 27 Voting for King and Queen Thursday, October 28 Saturday, October 30 Applications Available online or in the SCLA office Applications should be turned in to the SCLA office SCLA verifies that minimum qualifications are met Voting begins at 6am on October 26 and ends at 6pm on October 27 Campaign Materials must be removed King and Queen announced at halftime of football game Campaign & Election Guidelines Filing for Candidacy 1. The candidate must meet the requirements set forth in the “Minimum Qualifications for Homecoming Court Candidacy” in the Homecoming Court Guidebook. 2. Filing for candidacy must be complete by the deadline, which can be found in the “Timeline of Events.” 3. At the time of the filing for candidacy, each candidate will be given a copy of these Election Guidelines. They will also be available in electronic version upon request and posted on the Homecoming 2010 web-site. 4. Male candidates must file for Prince; female candidates must file for Princess. Campaigning 1. The campaign period shall be set forth in the “Timeline of Events” section of the Homecoming Guidebook. 2. Candidates must follow the UIW posting policy during the campaign period. Publicity taken down by the set forth in the “Timeline of Events” section of the Homecoming Guidebook. 3. An area in the Student Center will be set up to contain biography of the candidates with their responses to several pertinent student/college related questions. 4. Any violation of the campaign regulations may result in the withdrawal of the candidate from running for Homecoming King or Queen. 5. An expense limit of $50.00 shall be applied to each candidate. Receipts for campaign items should be turned in to SCLA as items are purchased. 6. Any materials used in the campaign shall be included in the expense, except items provided by the Student Center (posters and paints). 7. The facilities used during voting shall be considered a safe zone on the days of voting and shall be established by the Homecoming Court Committee. 8. No campaigning should be allowed in the safe zone on the days of voting. 9. No person may be written onto the ballot. Minimum Qualifications for Homecoming Court Candidacy 1. Candidate must be a full-time student at the University of the Incarnate Word and have completed two consecutive academic semesters. 2. Candidate must be in good standing with the university. 3. Candidate must have a cumulative grade point average of at leader 2.6 4. Candidate can’t be a candidate for graduation in December 2010. Homecoming Court and King and Queen Selection Process 1. Candidates for Homecoming Court will file for candidacy. 2. Candidacy will be screened by the Student Center & Leadership Activities and the Homecoming Court Committee to ensure each candidate meets the minimum qualifications. 3. The Homecoming Court Committee will review applications and narrow the pool of candidates to no more than five male students (Princes) and five female students (Princesses) for interviews. 4. The Homecoming Court Committee will further narrow the pool of candidates to no more than three Princes and three Princesses. 5. A general election will take place to determine the Homecoming King and Queen. Students will cast a ballot to vote for one King and one Queen. 6. The King and Queen will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game. Expectations of the Homecoming Court and Homecoming King and Queen 1. 2. 3. 4. The Homecoming Court and King and Queen will serve until the next Homecoming King and Queen are crowned. The Court and King and Queen may be asked to make public appearances to represent the university at functions such as fund-raisers, parades, community service events, etc. The Homecoming King and Queen will serve on the Homecoming Sub-Committee for Student Events and the Homecoming Court Committee. The Homecoming Court shall attend at least one Alumni Homecoming Event and one Student Homecoming event for 2010. Voting Procedures 1. Elections will be conducted via Blackboard 2. Each member of the student body shall have the right to cast one ballot for the candidate(s) of his/her choice. Voting shall be by secret ballot and conducted over a minimum of two days. 3. The plurality of those voting shall determine the winners. If two individuals receive the same number of votes, the Homecoming Court Committee will cast one vote to break the tie.
