Weekly Newsletter for the week of November 14th- November 18th Here’s what we did: Morning Language Arts: We have read through chapter 5 and are working on naming each chapter, adding character descriptions when appropriate, creating questions, and answering chapter discussion questions. The class seems to be getting the hang of the assignments and will see an increased work load soon. Afternoon Language Arts: We have begun working in stations throughout the classroom. We still begin our class with DLR (Daily Language Review), then have a mini-lesson about the topic of the day/week and branch into different stations. Students will be working in the classroom at a computer station, a reading station, a worksheet station with teacher assistance or a worksheet station independently. Homework will be assigned upon the completion of the stations. In Social Studies we prepared for and took the chapter two test. Due to the length and in-depth “thinking” questions, students were allowed to work on the test for two days in class, and with the aid of a book to check their answers on day two. The first corrections are made in black ink, the second set are in red. I will go over the test with the students on Monday and then send them home. On Thursday we went to hear the Cleveland Orchestra. What a beautiful, wonderful concert we got to attend! Our class was very well-behaved and enjoyed the field trip. Here’s what’s coming up: Next week we only have school on Monday and Tuesday due to Thanksgiving. We will also be having a school assembly on Tuesday, November 23rd concerning courteous students among other items. Students will also be recognized for effort for the first quarter. The weather is starting to get much colder. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear coats, hats and mittens! Students not dressed correctly will not be allowed to go outside for recess. This Friday, November 18th is Family Night at the Book Fair. Information came home on Wednesday. In Music, the students will begin using recorders. The school has recorders available, but if you would like to purchase one, they are $2.50. Important Information: There are a number of families that still need to return school fees. Please send these back to school soon. You can also pay them at the Board of Education. Keep on checking those planners and the website! More assignments and links are being added to folders weekly. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me through email or phone. Sonja.Kreps@Lakewood.k12.oh.us or 216-529-4232. Fantastic Fourth Grade Writing: Will appear in the short newsletter on Tuesday next week due to the field trip on Thursday.
