You may need to read it again. ________________ What SalCoal AntiDandruff Shampoo is used for_______ This medicine is an anti-dandruff formulation used to: * reduce flaking * control itching * prevent symptoms of dandruff This medicine belongs to a group of medicines called keratolytic and anti- inflammatory agents. It works by increasing the cell turnover rate of the scalp and reduce the thickness of the epidermis. 1 Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why this medicine has been prescribed for you. Your doctor may have prescribed it for another reason. This medicine is not addictive. It is available without a doctor's prescription. ________________ Before you use SalCoal AntiDandruff Shampoo Before you start to use it Tell your doctor if you have allergies to any other medicines, foods, preservatives or dyes. Taking other medicines Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you get without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop. _________________ How to use SalCoal Anti-Dandruff Shampoo_________ When you must not use it Do not use SalCoal AntiDandruff Shampoo if you have an allergy to: * any medicine containing salicylic acid or coal tar * any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet. Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include shortness of breath, wheezing or troubled breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body; rash, itching or hives on the skin. Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and pharmacist carefully. They may differ from the information contained in this leaflet. If you do not understand the instructions on the bottle, ask your doctor or pharmacist for help. How to use it Do not take this medicine after the expiry date printed on the bottle or if the bottle shows signs of tampering. Apply a small amount to the hair, lather with the aid of water. Allow to act for at least two minutes then rinse with water. May repeat process if desired. If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal. When to use it If you are not sure whether you should start using this medicine, talk to your doctor. SalCoal Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Use the shampoo twice a week. Using the shampoo on the same two days each week will help you to remember when to use it. . How long to use it Continue using your medicine until you have the desired results, then reduce frequency or for as long as your doctor recommends. __________________ While you are using SalCoal AntiDandruff Shampoo_ not. You may need medical attention if you get some of the side effects. Things you must not do You may not experience any of them. If you are not sure how long you should be using this medicine, talk to your doctor. Do not give your shampoo to anyone else, even if they have the same condition as you. If you forget to use it Do not use on inflamed or broken skin. Avoid contact with the eyes. Use the shampoo the next time you remember, there is no need to make up the missed treatment. Do not increase the amount of time the shampoo is left on for, or increase the number of treatments to make up for the treatment you have missed. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, inform your doctor before use to discuss the risks and benefits of using this medicine. Things to be careful of This may increase the chance of you getting an unwanted side effect. Protect your skin when you are in the sun, especially between 10am and 3pm. If outdoors, wear protective clothing and use a 30+ sunscreen. If you are not sure what to do, ask your doctor or pharmacist. If you have trouble remembering to use your shampoo, ask your pharmacist for some hints. Salicylic acid may cause your skin to be much more sensitive to sunlight than it is normally. Exposure to sunlight may cause a skin rash, itching, redness, or severe sunburn. If you use too much or swallow the shampoo (overdose) If your skin does appear to be burning, see your doctor as soon as possible. You may need alternative treatment. Immediately telephone your doctor or Poisons Information Centre (telephone 13 11 26) for advice, or go to Accident and Emergency at your nearest hospital, if you think that you or anyone else may have injested SalCoal Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning. You may need urgent medical attention. Symptoms of an overdose may include an upset stomach, vomiting, dizziness or sweating. 2 Do not be alarmed by the following lists of side effects. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to answer any questions you may have. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following and they worry you: * skin ulceration or erosion * acne like eruptions * increased sensitivity to light * burning * stinging * skin irritation The above list includes the more common side effects. If any of the following happen, tell your doctor immediately or go to Accident and Emergency at your nearest hospital: * symptoms of an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, wheezing or troubled breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body; rash, itching or hives on the skin. These are serious side effects. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation. May cause staining of clothing, bedding and other items. May discolour blonde or bleached hair. Tell your doctor if you notice anything else that is making you unwell. __________________ Side effects_______ Other side effects not listed above may occur in some people. This medicine is effective for the treatment of dandruff but it may have unwanted side effects in some people. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are SalCoal Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Ask your doctor or pharmacist to answer any questions you may have about the side effects. Do not be alarmed by this list of possible side effects. You may not experience any of them. __________________ After using SalCoal Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Storage Keep your shampoo in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 25 degrees C. Do not store SalCoal AntiDandruff Shampoo or any other medicine in the bathroom, where it can be easily reached by children or near a sink. Do not leave it on a window sill or in the car. Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines.
