World Mental Health Day Events Beckenham The Bethlem Gallery is celebrating World Mental Health Day by holding an exhibition called Flight of Ideas from 2 – 25 October. The Bethlem Gallery is staging an exhibition of postcards made by artists staying and working in hospitals across Europe. Flight of Ideas is an international collaboration between innovative arts practice, studio spaces and galleries based within psychiatric healthcare in Croatia, France, Italy and the UK. Canterbury Rethink Carers’ Support Group are having a special WMHD event on 15 October 2013, when our guest speaker will be Paul Jenkins CEO of Rethink Mental Illness. Unfortunately this is only open to our own carers and service users. Any spare places will be by special invitation only, as space will be limited. Kent Hope are planning an Art Exhibition in Canterbury High Street as part of the Canterbury Festival. This event will culminate in an auction where all exhibits are sold, the proceeds of which will be used to provide services for mental health service users in Canterbury. This will largely be used for Art Psychotherapy. The exhibition will continue throughout the year. Dartford The Healthy Living Centre in Dartford are planning an event at Dartford Market on 10th. Dover SpeakUp CIC are holding a Mental Health Awareness Event on the 16th of October at the Dover Discovery Centre between 10am and 2pm. This is to raise awareness of the services that are in the area as well as raising awareness of the mental health issues. There will be NHS Health Checks, Stop Smoking advice and a therapist to offer advice on arthritis and pain management. The Grand are also working with Gravesend library on the day from 10am – 3pm offering residents over 50 the chance to become a ‘Silver Surfer’ by trying a taster session at the library and the chance to sign up for a free course to learn how to use the Internet. Swale Sittingbourne & Sheppey Your Way are holding an around the world food tasting session in conjunction with Rethink Mental Illness and The Shaw Trust at the Gateway Sheerness on Thursday 10 October between 10.00 – 2.00, followed by a mini bus ride to the Green Mill allotment project at Eastchurch where people can enjoy a walk, view the allotments and all it has to offer and have a coffee in the new cafe on site. Tonbridge Reachout are linking in with Live It Well centre and attending an open day as a whole charity, with all projects being represented by Leigh Attwood, our office manager. Tara Gibson is also attending the World Cruise event on behalf of our charity in Medway.
