Introduction The document aims to describe the main steps for installing the software on the server side to ensure the App capability of displaying photos and video content on iOS and Android devices. This document is also a short tutorial for showing to user how to handle the media content on the server side in order to upgrade and remove them from the list of accessible data. In this document the ‘Media Content Server’ is composed by: - the media (photo and video) server; - the mobile product server that provides mobile application with mobile products . The media content server is a repository of photo and video and each time that the mobile application starts, the local media content of the mobile application is updated with the content of the Media Content Server. The following figure describes the workflow and the architecture of the Media Content Server: Fig.1: Media Content Management Architecture Like described in the document ‘D.1 Technical Note - Design Description and Feasibility Analysis’, the Media Content Server is an common FTP server where the authorized user, for example the mission manager, can Advanced Computer Systems – 2015 3 D.6 Installation and user manual of media content server Doc. The application MediaUpdater manages the media (save and delete media on the server) and creates the index file to define the visualization order of the media items. The mobile application loads the index file and retrieves each media present in it to display basing on the right order. The effective media is streamed towards the mobile device when the user of the mobile app selects a specific photo or video. 1.1. Hardware e software requirements The Media Content Server requires an FTP server on the server and there is not specific requirement for hardware or operative system. All communications from the device to the server follow the FTP protocol. In the current installation and operational environment on server, the FTP rpm packages are included in the Linux Centos 5.2 distribution. The disk size requirement for the server depends on only to the media items to store on it. Actually the disk size configuration is 80Gbof disk space The Media Content Server runs on a Linux machine with Linux CentOS 5.3 distribution with minimum 4Gb of RAM and CPU Intel Core2. Media Content Server The media content server is a common FTP server using the standard ftp protocol and network port (port:21). In general the ftp server should be already installed on the platform. If no, contact the System Administrator to install it. When the user would watch on the device the video or photo, the mobile application points to the next two paths for downloading them: - for photos: /web/ERSApp/photo - for video:/web/ERSApp/video This downloading is completely automatic and transparent and doesn’t require specific user actions. 3. Media Content Client – MediaUpdater application NAME: PLATFORM: LIBRARIES: INPUT DATA: OUTPUT DATA: SCOPE : MediaUpdater Windows 7 or more QT Framework 5.2.1 Images in jpg, png formats and video in mp4 (codec H264) format Store images and videos to ACS ftp server with the xml description the Media Content Manager populates the Media Content Server with photos and videos and generates the indices of references The MediaUpdater application enables the user to upload the media (photos and video) on the media content server. The MediaUpdater is a Windows 7 application (or newest OS versions)and the size of the package is around 45Mb.No specific requirement is needed about the RAM or CPU to run the application. The application does not require specific installation being a portable application, so that it is sufficient to copy the MediaUpdater package in a directory and to launch it in order to access to the main services of the MediaUpdater. The next paragraph reports the User Graphic Interface with the widget explanation and the main user actions to update the Media Content. APP-TP-ACS-MOB-0106 1.0 03/11/2015 MediaUpdater Graphic Interface Fig.2 : MediaUpdater Main Screen The following workflow can be applied to the photo or video data: 1. From the menu item, Open the menu ‘Photo’ and select ‘Open’( this command open the local index file for photo); 2. A new index file can be created adding new images into the application and selecting the ‘Photo>Save as’ command; 3. Press the ‘+’ button in the middle of the window to add a new photo; 4. The new photo is added at the end of the left item list; 5. The images preview is automatically captured, for video the user can select the preferred still frame of the video; 6. Select this new photo picking on the thumbnails list; 7. On the right side, under the caption area, it’s possible to insert text for describing the image Advanced Computer Systems – 2015 6 D.6 Installation and user manual of media content server Doc. On the center of the graphic interface, by the ‘up arrow’ or ‘down arrow’ buttons, the user shall be able to set a new order of the media content presentation ; 10.Open the menu ‘Photo’ and select ‘Save’ command. This command saves locally the index file of photos; 11.Open the menu ‘Photo’ and select ‘Publish’ command. This command saves the index file and the referenced images on the Media Content Server; 12.The ‘Photo->Download configuration’ downloads the index files from the Media Content Server (reverse of Publish command). This command is useful to retrieve the current configuration used in the mobile application and it can be a good start point if the user hasn’t an updated configuration. 4. Mobile product Server The mobile products server is a common FTP server using the standard ftp protocol and network port (port:21). In general the ftp server should be already installed on the platform. If no, contact the System Administrator to install it. The mobile products server needs almost of 80Gb of disk space to store the ERS media products of the radio-altimeter and ATSR instrument [APP-TN-ACS-MOB-0101]. On this server all the ERS 1-2 radio-altimeter and optical products data are saved previously so that the mobile application can download them from the following paths of: - - for radio-altimeter data: o /web/ERSApp/data/ERS1/Data o /web/ERSApp/data/ERS2/Data for ATSR optical data: Advanced Computer Systems – 2015 7 D.6 Installation and user manual of media content server Doc.
