Peer Leader Roles and Responsibilities
The Peer Leader is given the primary responsibility of providing leadership during Orientation as
an Orientation leader, and then continuing on into the semester to work alongside the COR 1
faculty to assist in guiding students in all aspects of their transition to college. Specific
responsibilities and requirements of the Peer Leader are listed below.



Participation in all scheduled Peer Leader training sessions during the spring prior to your fall
appointment. Dates for 2011: April 17 and May 6
Maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
Full participation in Orientation as an Orientation leader: This includes all training and
leadership sessions as well as all freshman orientation sessions and activities during the week
of August 17-24 (August 20th is a day off!)
o Specific Dates & Times
 Tuesday, August 17 – 9am to 6pm, Training
 Wednesday, August 18, 9am to 6pm, Training
 Thursday, August 19, 9am to 6pm, Training
 3-6pm will be facilitation training for the Year of Truth session that you
will be co-facilitating with a faculty or staff member
 Friday, August 20 – DAY OFF
For Sat., Sun and Monday, we are asking you to take off the entire day from
working.









 Saturday, August 21 – 8am to evening (specific time depends on tasks)
 Sunday, August 22 – 9am to evening (specific time depends on tasks)
 Monday, August 23 – 8am to evening (specific time depends on tasks)
 Tuesday, August 24 – optional sessions (not required to attend).
Full and complete attendance at bi-weekly Peer Leader skill building and development sessions
to be held on Thursdays at 4 PM
Registration in IC201-This is your Peer Leader development class to be held on Thursdays at 4
PM bi-weekly. (the course may be taken for 1 or 0 credits)
Prior to orientation, connect with your COR 1 students via e-mail to introduce yourself and
welcome them to their COR 1 course and Edgewood College.
Make arrangements to connect with your COR 1 Instructor during the summer prior to your fall
appointment.
Full attendance at all class sessions for your assigned COR I class.
Serve as a social role model and student mentor for your COR I students.
Meet with your COR I Instructor weekly to discuss course direction, course plans and to
determine and define ongoing Peer Leader participation within the class.
Serve as a student guide to campus resources as needed.
Serve as a student guide and mentor to campus activities as needed.
Peer Leader Compensation:
Peer leaders who have met the above expectations will be awarded a cash stipend as compensation
for their efforts. This compensation will be awarded at the end of the semester. Peer Leader
compensation will be awarded as follows:

First year Peer Leaders will receive a $400 stipend at the end of their semester of commitment.
Returning Peer Leaders will receive a $450 stipend at the end of their semester of commitment.
Peer Leader Coordinators will receive a $500 stipend at the end of their semester of
commitment. *
Peer Leader Coordinators are selected by the COR staff and have additional responsibilities as laid out in
the Peer Leader Coordinators Roles and Responsibilities document.
