Paul Vidanovich
Paul Vidanovich is a consulting geophysicist and BSc graduate from the University of
Auckland, with 25 years experience in mineral exploration in New Zealand, Australia, North
& South America, and the Asia-Pacific region.
He has worked in many geological settings including epithermal and mesothermal gold,
porphyry gold-copper, massive sulphides, PGM’s, nickel and base metals, mineral sands
and alluvial deposits.
Techniques he has used in exploration include magnetics, IP/Resistivity, radiometrics,
gravity, seismics, ground probing radar, CSAMT and EM. In addition he has been involved
extensively in drilling supervision, drill logging and geological and geochemical
reconnaissance.
In the Coromandel region Paul was involved in the early stages of the Golden Cross mine
study for Cyprus Minerals as well as the Onemana epithermal gold discovery made by
Heritage Gold in 1994. He used similar techniques to those employed at Onemana in
assisting with the discovery of the Favona high-grade epithermal deposit (now owned by
Newmont) at Waihi in 2001.
His recent experience includes working in Australia with the VTEM airborne system in the
search for base metal sulphides, nickel, and uranium. He has also been involved with
design, planning, supervision and interpretation of a number of aeromagnetic/radiometric
surveys in New Zealand.
Paul is a member of the New Zealand Geological Society, the Australian Society of
Exploration Geophysicists, Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the New York
Academy of Sciences.
Richard Barker
Richard Barker is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington with an MSc (Hons) in
geology and geochemistry. Since the mid-1970s he has worked for government agencies,
companies, consulting organisations and mining industry associations. He now works from
Auckland as a self-employed consulting geologist.
After about 30 years working in mineral exploration in NZ, Australia, the Pacific Islands and
Asia, mainly related to epithermal gold, his work now encompasses information research,
public policy development and advice to the industry including metals, industrial minerals
and aggregates, ranging from exploration through to production, fund-raising, valuations and
permitting. Clients include companies, government agencies (including GNS Science) and
industry organisations. His particular interests now are related to improving the recognition of
New Zealand’s mineral potential.
He is a Trustee of the Education Endowment Trust established by the NZ Branch of the
Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
Murray Stevens
Murray Stevens is a graduate of Auckland University, New Zealand and Macquarie
University, Australia. He holds an MSc (Hons) in geology and a post graduate diploma in
Mineral Economics.
He is a geologist with 30 years experience and provides consulting services in the areas of
mineral resource development principally for epithermal gold-silver deposits in the Waihi
Gold District, New Zealand; mesothermal shear-hosted gold in Central Otago; layered
igneous complex related PGM mineralisation in South Island, New Zealand; alluvial gold and
platinum in the South Island and in Colombia, South America; porphyry copper-gold in North
Queensland, Australia; mesothermal gold-base-metal in high grade metamorphic terrains in
Vietnam; carbonate hosted epithermal gold deposits and porphyry related gold deposits in
Borneo; and aggregates for the quarrying industry. This has included carrying out site
investigations; drilling and computer modeling; designing and implementing resource
definition programmes; feasibility studies; scoping studies; Public Company mineral project
auditing for compliance under the Australasian JORC code and the Canadian National
Instrument 43-101; preparation of Public Company reporting of resources under JORC and
NI43-101; providing strategic corporate advice; preparation of specialist technical reports for
merger and acquisitions of public companies.
Murray is a member of the AusIMM and is currently on the NZ Branch Committee and is the
immediate past Chairman of the NZ Branch.
Graeme Fulton
Graeme Fulton has a BSc Hons (Mining and Petroleum Engineering) and more than 20
years experience in mining and information systems. He has worked for French-Kier on their
Benbain Opencast coal mine (UK); Anglo American Corporation at Vaal Reefs Gold Mine,
Premier Diamond Mine and Springbok Colliery in South Africa; and as Senior Mining
Engineer for Avgold on the development of a new deep-level gold mine, Target.
He has extensive experience in mining information systems, having worked at Andersen
Consulting, Intertech Systems and Datamine on information systems for mining, petroleum
and manufacturing companies as well as mining software development, GIS and mapping.
Additionally, he has extensive experience in geological, mining and quarrying consultancy
projects over a wide range of minerals and deposits both locally and internationally.
Consultancy work is currently being undertaken in New Zealand, Australia, Papua New
Guinea, Vietnam and Malaysia, and has previously been undertaken with MDS Mining
Consultants (NZ and Canada), Datamine (Southern/Central Africa) and Intertech Systems
(Southern Africa).
Graeme is a member of the AusIMM; a committee member and Treasurer of the NZ Branch
and Education Endowment Trust, as well as Past-Chairman; he was previously a Board
Member of EXITO (Extractive Industry Training Organisation – Mining Sector
Representative).
Vivienne Bull
Vivienne Bull graduated with MSc (Hons) Geology from University of Auckland, and has over
30 years experience in the New Zealand mining industry. Vivienne has been a specialist
tenement consultant for 20 years, obtaining permits under the Crown Minerals Act 1991 for
prospecting, exploration and mining. She has had extensive experience in securing resource
consents under the Resource Management Act 1991 for prospecting, exploration and mining
projects in a wide range of mineral commodities. She also undertakes literature and
commodity reviews and compiles GIS databases for clients.
Vivienne worked for 6 years for AHI Minerals Ltd in New Zealand; 4.5 years in the Mines
Department at Ministry of Energy, Wellington NZ as Senior Minerals Geologist; and 4 years
as Senior Geologist, BHP Gold Mines NZ Ltd based in Auckland.
When BHP was acquired by Macraes Mining in 1990 Vivienne set up her consultancy
business, initially working out of the Simpson Grierson Law offices for several years and at
times working on projects for the law firm.
Vivienne is a Member of the AusIMM; former Board member of the Extractive Industry
Training Organisation (EXITO); former Board member, Councillor and Vice President of the
AusIMM; and former Vice President and Councillor of the New Zealand Minerals Industry
Association (NZMIA).
