Smoke and light have been on my mind this past week. The skies have been hazy and obscured by the smoke from the western wildfires and some days it is so dim one wonders if there is any light in the sky at all. And I am reminded of the eloquent messages Tim has given us on light these past weeks. Sometimes when we are in the midst of pain, sorrow or grief or just our hectic days, it is hard to see the light through the haze, just as it is hard to see the sun, moon or stars on these incredibly smoky days. The inclination is to retreat indoors from the smoke and dullness and it is only on those days when the skies clear and the sun shines brightly do we realize that God's light is always there, even when it is hazy or obscured. Matthew 4:16 says, “the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light." A reminder to us that the light of Jesus is shining even when sometimes it is hard to see. Behind that haze, God's love is burning bright and strong.
In the sorrow and haze that losing a loved one brings, we ask for the peace of Christ to be with those suffering from grief, remembering Millie Sivak in the loss of her mother, Gail
Bucko on the passing of her brother and Steve Stephens on the death of his daughter.
Many others have lost friends or family members this month and we pray that they might see the light of God's love. There are many joys with which we continue to be blessed.
With the Gentry's we celebrate their grandson's entry into the Navy. With the Caldwell and Maki families we are grateful for the chance for Arete and MaryKate to explore new horizons at college. The Hickey family celebrated the marriage last month of Nicole and we ask for blessings for this new union. Harper and Cole Gardner and Danielle Kallstrom all were blessed with a week at Glacier Camp and the support from the Sunrise
Congregation for that opportunity. With Kate and Cory Kalanick and grandparents Bob and Nancy Maynard we join in the baptism of Braden in Denver and our opportunity to be supportive of him in that sacrament.
Travis and Erica Harp welcome to their family and our Sunrise family a daughter, Hannah
Elizabeth Harp, born on August 24th at 5:05 A.M. weighing 7 lbs 6 oz and measuring 21
1/4 inches long. She has lots of dark hair. According to proud grandparents, Bill and Tana
Harp, she is perfect in every way!
Over the years, my kids and grandkids have sung the song, "Step Into the Sunshine", during Holy Week and thinking about the haze of smoke and the sunshine that is sometimes hard to see, it came to mind. In the words of that song, "Step into the sunshine, get out of the shade...we are reminded to find God's light in our lives in even the darkest moments.
See you in the Sunshine, Tana
My name is Ty Kallstrom and as many of you know, I have been going to Sunrise since I was eight years old. In the past almost 9 years, you as a church have shown considerable support to my siblings and me, now I wish to ask for one big display to help me achieve my long time goal of Eagle Scout .
I am currently raising funds to build a brand new cabin for Glacier Camp.
The reason they need it is the old red cabin on the edge of the parade grounds is dangerously unstable and must come down. Cabin construction will be under my coordination with the help of our very own Jerry Miller and Howard Enloe. Loren Smith has given me space to construct the cabin and transportation to the camp. I need just under
$10,000 to be able to buy the kit and every little bit helps.
Thank you for giving me so much, now it’s my turn to pay it forward.
Donations for Ty’s Eagle Scout project can be made to Sunrise Presbyterian Church

The purpose of this meeting is to elect new members of the Nominating Committee!
The Sunrise Festival of Trees Committee would like to thank our church family for the support you have provided throughout the years we have participated in the Intermountain
Festival of Trees in Helena! Although our committee is really a separate entity from
Sunrise, the entire church has been supportive, both emotionally and monetarily, as we work to raise money for Intermountain. We would like to thank you for that support by inviting you to a spaghetti dinner on
Sunday, September 20 th (Tim’s birthday!) in the social hall.
Everyone is invited! The master chef will be none other than Howard Enloe! There is no charge to attend, but we do need you to complete the reservation form at the bottom of this page, and make sure it is turned in to the church office by noon on Wednesday, September 16.
Our event will begin at 4:00 pm on the 20 th with a short presentation about Intermountain, along with a preview of our plans for our tree for this year’s festival. Dinner will follow. Please join us for excellent food, worthwhile information, and fun fellowship!

As a member of the Black Eagle-Assiniboine Chapter
Daughters of the American Revolution, I encourage the
Sunrise Presbyterian Church and all churches to pray for our country as we recall the signing of the Constitution on
September 17, 1787. We believe it is appropriate to reaffirm our support for our government, and our Constitution, and our country. We need to remember the ideals set forth for the United States of America by the valiant men who famed our Constitution with God's guidance.
As we read the Constitution again, may we realize once more the many privileges and freedoms granted us by our Constitution. However, we must also remember that we need to protect our freedoms and that "lost" rights may never be regained. It is our responsibility as Christians to pray for our government officials, support Godly men and women in various offices, and to VOTE voicing our opinions.
Let us celebrate Constitution Week, September 17th through the 23rd, by resolving to pray daily for our President and all government officials. We need to be better informed, as well as more responsible citizens in our community, state and nation. We want to remind all church members and friends to pray for our country on Sundays September 13 and 20th.
On Thursday, September 17th at 2:00 P.M. (our time).
The bells will be rung at 4:00 P.M. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to honor the signing of the United States Constitution. Due to the time zone changes, if we ring our bells or chimes at 2:00 P.M., we will be ringing them at the same time across the country. Thank you for helping us celebrate the freedoms we have in America.

There is only one word I can use to describe
Glacier Camp … HOME.
What I mean is, every summer for the past four years I have found
sanctuary in this place. Glacier is a place where kids who are misjudged,
the weird kids, and the people who are so misunderstood in so many
ways, can come and follow their belief, disconnect from the sometimes stressful outside world, and meet others who feel the same as they do.
I was one of the kids who came to Glacier to find refuge. And I found it. The friends that I made there were almost like kindred spirits to me. One example was Brooke. Brooke was someone who felt that, even though she wanted to connect with God, something deep inside wouldn’t let her. Alongside that, she was also getting turned away by some of her only friends, for reasons she didn’t know.
But let’s look on the brighter side of things. After all, it’s not just people that make a place home. Along with all the amazing people I met, the activities were great too. My top ten favorite activities were; hanging out at the craft shack, swimming, campfire, hatchet throwing playing card games during cabin time, our bread ceremonies, seeing the animals in the barn, kitchen night raids, the ropes course, hiking, and just being there.
All in all I feel extremely lucky to have gone to Glacier Camp…Home... for the past four years. -by Harper Gardner
Psalm 19:1
“The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.”
Dear God who made the beauty of Glacier Camp,
Thank you for your peace and grace that I found at Glacier Camp.
My time there was awesome. I loved going to the island and the chance to campout under the beautiful stars in the heavens. I give thanks for all the counselors and friends who were there with me and the chance to have fun on the water trampoline and canoe on the grand reflecting pool that is Flathead Lake. I loved my year at camp and pray that others can enjoy your beauty too. Please bless
Glacier Camp and those who shared their love of God in this place.
Amen. –by Cole Gardner
Pictures top to bottom: Cole and Harper Gardner, Cole Gardner enjoying camp
My favorite part of Glacier Camp was probably wrestling on the water trampoline with some of the other kids and counselors. I got to do other fun things, too.
There weren’t very many of us, but that made it even better; we all got more food! We got to do a kitchen raid! I got a mouth full of whipped cream! YAY! We also went on several hikes and got to see the owner's farm. I met really nice people, and the counselors were great!
Some other things we did were the water Olympics and the two girl cabins got together and watched a movie. I spent a lot of time in the craft shack. I made lots of thing, so many
I had to get a trash bag to hold them all!
And we had lots of free time to wander about and swim, go to the craft shack, play gaga ball, basketball, and volleyball. I spent my free time in the water and in the craft shack.
And because we were all in middle school, we got a whole lot of freedom.
We got to play a game called Dumb Dice; it was raining. My table was loud and strangely competitive. I’ll admit, I was too. That’s some of the great things I did at Glacier Camp!
