Removing barriers to learning and have an impact on students’ life changes. Salary: SO1 (£23,395 to £24,982) (FTE £25,400 to £27,123) Hours: 37 hours per week – Term time plus 20 days including 5 inset days (15 days as directed). Hours will be worked between 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (as directed by the Assistant Principal responsible for Pastoral) Some flexibility is required within the working hours to attend any other meetings/events outside normal working hours when required. Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Learning Leader To deputise for the Assistant Principal responsible for Pastoral on all Pastoral responsibilities as and when required. To deputise as the Designated Safeguarding Person as and when required. To work with Heads of Year and Assistant Principals regarding student attainment, attendance and behaviour and develop appropriate intervention strategies. Liaising with staff on the progress of individual students, contacting and meeting with parents as appropriate. To lead on whole school attendance working with the Attendance Officer and Education Welfare Officer ensuring whole school attendance stays within our schools target. To be responsible for those events, activities and meetings that are specific to the Pastoral system. To manage the smooth running of the inclusion centre To manage the homework breakfast club To oversee the whole school homework monitoring system To mentor under achieving students to improve academic outcomes. To undertake On-Call duties and investigate and resolve student incidents as required To manage the anti-bullying system to include the organisation of the bullying mentors and oversea the online anti-bullying software. To lead the whole school behaviour system so effective learning can take place To ensure the smooth running of assemblies. To lead the whole school reward system keeping students updated with certificates and rewards. To lead the Student Leadership programme for Year 9,10 and 11 – including Duke of Edinburgh and Prefects To be responsible for the co-ordination and evaluation of focus days including PSHE / E-Safety / Post 16 Careers On rare occasions supervise a class of students in the event of cover needs exceeding capacity. To undertake before school, morning break, lunch and after school duties as required Contribute with ideas and suggestions for the development of the pastoral team Responsible for the communication of pastoral matters via the schools weekly newsletter Responsibilities in relation to students Supporting and tracking progress of FAAP panel students to support satisfactory outcomes for both students and the school Liaise with EWO/EIS in relation to student attendance Work with the Attendance Officer to analyse attendance data to highlight patterns of absence ensuring student attendance for all years stays within whole school target. To monitor form time activities ensuring PHSE / E-safety and daily prayer is taking place to support form tutors Monitor the progress of individual students regarding attainment, attendance and behaviour and develop appropriate intervention strategies. To include academic support within lessons and contacting and meeting with parents/carers as appropriate. To support the work of tutors in relation to discipline To organise work to be supplied to absent students/excluded/isolated students Oversee progress of students within Year groups and to work with the appropriate member of SLT in analysing information, in order to work with groups within the year who are underachieving or who are at risk of underachieving, e.g. Most Able, Less Able, Pupil Premium and Educational Health Plan students Manage student behaviour and to ensure that all students in the year groups are fully compliant with all aspects of the school’s uniform requirements To undertake On-Call duties and investigate and resolve student incidents when required The oversight, organisation and delivery of assemblies Liaise with the HoY and SEN department with regards to IEP’s and EBD’s Writing PSPs for students with attendance/punctuality problems with the support of the attendance officer Complete Planner/Homework reviews at regular intervals throughout the year Attend all school events involving year groups to support school and students and help with the organisation of events for Year groups which will support students with the values and Ethos of the school including personal health and careers. Responsibilities in relation to parents To keep parents informed of all issues in relation to attendance, management of student behaviour, progress of students against targets, changes to sets/courses etc. Home visits/interviews when necessary Presentations and interviews at parents’ evenings and other events in relation to the year groups. Responsibilities in relation to staff Guidance and support for tutors Support tutors in relation to managing student behaviour Support staff covering for absent colleagues during registration/tutor periods and on rare occasions supervise a class of students in the event of cover needs exceeding capacity. To contribute to Year Tutors meetings To inform tutors of interviews with parents and to support tutors when they are interviewing parents To inform tutors, where necessary, of medical history and associated problems To inform tutors of disciplinary action taken with students in their tutor group To monitor and co-ordinate the use of the school reward system within the tutor groups in the year To support the tutors in monitoring the use of planners To liaise with Heads of Department/Subject Teachers where appropriate in relation to issues students are encountering within curriculum time Supporting Form Assemblies, Year Masses, fund raising activities and other school events Present information to whole staff during Wednesday morning pastoral briefings Attend morning briefings with the Assistant Principal responsible for Pastoral and the Pastoral team Attend weekly Pastoral meetings Where appropriate attend curriculum meetings to represent the Pastoral department Responsibilities in relation to communication within the year groups and school To use the weekly school newsletter to communicate and update parents/carers on student activities To communicate all information in relation to the behaviour of students outside of curriculum time to tutors To inform tutors of all communications with parents and outside agencies in relation to students in their tutor group To advise the Principal and others in the Senior Leadership Team of issues in relation to the work of the year groups To liaise with Heads of Department in relation to progress of students for whom you are responsible Responsibilities in relation to communicating with outside agencies – working closely with the Pastoral Support Officer and the Transition Leader Liaison with Careers advisor Liaison with Education Welfare Officer Liaison with Medical Services Liaison with alternative provision providers where appropriate Attendance where appropriate at case conferences Attendance where appropriate at court hearings Liaison with Children’s Services and other outside agencies in relation to student management Responsibilities in relation to supporting/representing the school at events There is an expectation that as part of the Learning Leader role you will attend/support and where appropriate organise events involving Years 9, 10 and 11. These include: Curriculum Evenings, Exam evenings, Open evenings, Sponsored walk, Musical showcases including pop icon, school productions, Parents evenings, Consultation days, Awards evenings, Carol concerts, Citizenship days, Pathway events, Sports celebration events, Specific focus evenings i.e. literacy and numeracy events, Lenten activities, Educational visits, Easter activities, Christmas activities, Days of reflection, reconciliation services and contribute to St Augustine’s day. This list can be changed at the Principals discretion.
