THE AMERICAN VIRTUOSI: BRIEF INDIVIDUAL BIOS CHARLES BOROWSKY is a noted social scientist who has utilized the arts to build bridges among people and nations. In cooperation with universities in USA (including Yale, the University of Maryland, Towson University, and Mount Saint Mary’s) and abroad (Jerusalem, Tokyo, Amman, Oldenburg, Berlin, and Warsaw) he has organized numerous exchange projects, conferences, symposia, and festivals. Under the auspices of UNESCO and The International Music Council, Dr. Borowsky co-organized conferences and festivals in Amman and Jerusalem featuring renowned artists and speakers from around the world ("Globalization and Local Music Traditions"). He has also organized symposia on "Classical Music in the Age of Globalization" (Baltimore and Heidelberg). His harmonica performances and baritone voice have been very much appreciated by audiences around the world. In 2010 Dr. Borowsky received the Paderewski Award for Distinguished Contributions to Society and Culture. CECYLIA BARCZYK, cellist, has achieved international recognition as a complete artist, successful teacher, and humanitarian. She has given concerts, recitals, and master classes throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America and has appeared as a soloist with prominent orchestras including those of Amman, Baltimore, Beijing, Berlin, Boston, Berlin, Bucharest, Budapest, Jakarta, Leipzig, London, Moscow, New York, Prague, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Seoul, Shanghai, Sofia, St. Petersburg, Taiwan, Tel Aviv, Tianjin, Tokyo, and Warsaw. She has frequently performed on radio and television and has recorded much of the standard and new cello literature on the Muza, ICRecords, Melodya, Relief, and CRS labels. Awards in recent years include the Grace Clagett Ranney Prize for excellence in chamber music at The Peabody Institute (2013), first prizes in the Mary Graham Lasley Concerto Competition (2013), Levine Chamber Music Competition (as part of Trio INUENDI, 2012), Baltimore Music Club Competition (2010), and Peggy Friedman – Yale Gordon Competition (2008), and second prize in the Sylvia and Irving H. Cohen Competition (2010). At the age of eighteen, Frances graduated from the Honor's College of Towson University as a recipient of a full-tuition scholarship. Her mother, cellist Cecylia Barczyk, was her primary instructor through her studies at Towson University.
