Seasonal Forest Inventory Technicians (Ukiah, CA) Mendocino Redwood Company is searching for qualified Seasonal Forest Inventory Technicians to perform forest inventory field data collections in coastal Mendocino and Humboldt counties and other locations as assigned. Additional duties and responsibilities are outlined below. •Locate plots by pre-determined GPS coordinates; •Conduct field measurements according to specified inventory protocol; •Record data on field data recorder; •Perform quality checks and upload field data daily; •Provide assistance to the Inventory Forester(s). We are searching for candidates with college or university coursework in Forestry. Forest measurements and sampling, statistics, and forest ecology experience is required. Knowledge of tree species in northwestern California is required. Experience in forest inventory analysis, timber cruising, or other closely related biological sampling is desirable. To perform this position successfully, an individual must have knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, and Internet software. Working knowledge of GPS technology including data formats. Working knowledge of ArcMap is desirable. Must demonstrate proficiency with forest inventory measurement tools; must take consistent, replicable measurements to the level of precision required in the protocol. Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles including automobiles, trucks and large 4-wheel drive vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines. With appropriate training, an individual must be capable of safely and effectively operating (run, maneuver, navigate and drive in various types of territory) all terrain vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines. Candidates must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to concisely describe conditions observed in the field, recorded as notes. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers. Ability to apply mathematical skills pertaining to forest inventory data collection including geometry and trigonometry. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists or where the situation at hand is not specifically addressed in the protocol. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. This position requires daily travel in 4WD pickup to access field locations. Travel via ATV also required. Overnight camping in the field may be necessary at times.
