Program:
Black Creek CHC is a non-profit, community-based organization that provides health care
services and programs to create safe and healthy communities. The Centre is funded by the
Central Local Integration Health Network (CLHIN) and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long
Term Care. We are seeking an Early Childhood Educator for a new initiative funded by the
CLHIN-Community Substance Abuse Services.
The successful candidate will join the Bridges to Moms and Moms and Kids Too program, a
partnership with the Jean Tweed Centre and Addictions Services of York Region (ASYR) to
work with children 0-6 years whose parents are struggling with substance use. Focus will be on
the developmental needs and healthy attachment of the children.
Job Summary:
The Early Childhood Educator collaborates closely with all other members of the Bridges to
Moms and Moms and Kids Too (M2K) program team to provide nurturing care and education to
young children in a group setting. This is done in accordance with the goals and curriculum
plans of the MK2 program, the philosophy and policies of the collaboration agencies and in
compliance with the Early Childhood Education Act.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and well- being of the children. Provide
support, in collaboration with the addiction outreach counsellor, for women and children who
are affected by drug use.

Recognize and respond to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate
education and child behaviour management techniques

Share in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, ageappropriate activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning and promote each
child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development

Participate fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children
in the program

Establish and maintain regular communication with parents and model appropriate childcare
and parenting techniques

Observe and record relevant information on each child's progress as required/as per
program practices

Attend and participate actively in all program, parental or other meetings as required

Engage in positive collaboration with the other programs and early childhood educators of
the centre in coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities and personnel

Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory
training

Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Program Manager or her
designate
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor Early Childhood Education or provincially recognized equivalent.
Registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario.

Experience and ability to work with children who may have been exposed to fetal drugs or
alcohol

Physically able and willing to perform jobs tasks, including lifting and moving of children
and equipment


Valid Standard First Aid and Level “C” CPR, valid driver’s license and access to an insured
vehicle
Experience and/or interest in working with parents and children with special attention to the
development of infants and children
A demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Be willing to work at multiple locations across Toronto & Southern York Region

Start Date: September 2015
Salary Range: $25 to $29 per hour
