Public Hearing Proposed Service and Fare Changes Wichita Transit October 6, 2015 5:30 P.M. City Hall City Council Chambers 455 N Main Wichita, KS 67202 WT staff present: Steve Spade, Director Philip Zevenbergen, Associate Planner Michelle Stroot, Senior Management Analyst Raven Alexander, Recording Secretary The public hearing called to order at 5:33 P.M., October 6, 2015. The purpose of this hearing is to receive input from the general public regarding Wichita Transit’s proposed fare and service changes. The Director provided a brief introduction including background of the purpose of the changes. He also summarized activities and opportunities for the public input over the past month. The primary goal of the public hearing is for the attendees to share their comments regarding the proposed changes. The Director opened the floor for comments. Comments included: Routes should run 30 minutes throughout the day Eliminating Plainview from the S. Broadway route will create hardships. This is a low income neighborhoods. Businesses, social services and schools would no longer be served. Proposed zone fare for paratransit is a huge increase. These riders are on limited income. Service change to the Riverside route will only service edges of neighborhoods and require longer walks. Large apartment complexes, museums and City Hall will be eliminated. Route changes create longer walks for various areas for riders to catch the bus at a stop. Fare changes complaints include: o Removal of semester passes o Riders unable to afford second fare o Concerns with abuse of transfers o Concerns with removal of transfers o No discounts provided for special citizens when purchasing passes Councilwoman Miller closed the public hearing by thanking people for their support and willingness to share input. Hearing adjourned at 6:40 P.M.
