2013 Miss Truckee Rodeo Queen Competition

The Truckee Championship Pro Rodeo wants to thank you for your interest in running for

Miss Truckee Professional Rodeo 2013.

Your packet includes: Instructions, application, horsemanship pattern and a release.

Your completed forms must be mailed, postmarked no later than March 15, 2013 to:

Contestant Eligibility

1. Miss Truckee Rodeo Queen contestants must not be less than 16 years old and no older than 23 years old as of the date of the Saturday rodeo performance, August 24, 2013.

2. May not be, or have previously been, married, and/or pregnant, and never convicted of a crime. If any of this should occur during the Queen’s reign, she will forfeit her title and all prizes.

3. Must execute all consents and/or waivers of liability presented prior to competition.

Rules and Regulations

1. Contestants must conduct themselves in a lady-like manner and portray a high standard of moral and ethical behavior befitting of the title and setting a good example for our youth, to the public and future competitors. Contestants will not be permitted to drink alcoholic beverages, smoke or use foul language at any time when representing the Truckee Pro Rodeo.

2. The 2013 Miss Truckee Rodeo Queen promises to make herself available to the public, photographic or interview opportunities to appear as the 2013 Miss Truckee Rodeo Queen in order to promote the sport of rodeo, horsemanship, and the Truckee Professional Rodeo.

3. Contestants must supply one 5 x 7 headshot photo. The photo can be black and white or color,

(color is preferred) with western attire and a hat. The photos will be used for judging and publicity and will not be returned.

4. Contestants must provide their own wardrobe for the horsemanship and speech and modeling portions of the competition.

5. The Queen agrees to make a reasonable number of appearances throughout the year, including community events, Truckee July 4 th parade, all Truckee Rodeo week activities, as well as numerous

Rodeos, (i.e., , Cottonwood, Penn Valley, Red Bluff, Folsom, Grass Valley, Reno & Auburn).

Queens are encouraged to participate in community service to promote rodeo.

6. A contestant must agree to abide by all contest rules. Failure to do so would result in disqualification.

7. 25% of the competition will be based on the total quantity of pre-rodeo ticket sales. Each contestant will be given an allotment of tickets and will be responsible for the total amount of their value. 25% of the crowned contestant’s sales will be returned to her to offset her costs. Additional tickets can be mailed or picked up as needed. Total monies are to be turned in to the Queen

Coordinator the morning of the contest. Cash, cashier’s check or money orders will be accepted.

8. Contestant application due date: Application, release, entry fee and photo must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2013 .

Contest Date: August 17, 2013

Starting at 9:00 a.m. at McIver Arena, Truckee, CA. We will have a brief meeting at 9:15 a.m.

Horsemanship will start at 9:45 a.m. We will break for lunch. Contestants shall have an individual interview, and then give their speech, modeling and answer an impromptu question.

Horsemanship

1. Each contestant shall ride a required horsemanship pattern, as well as perform a Queen run and a flag run.

2. Horsemanship attire should consist of Wrangler brand jeans of any color, a coordinating blouse, and appropriate accessories (Hat, boots, belt, etc.). Chaps are not permitted.

3. A short interview will be conducted in the arena at the completion of the stock pattern.

4. Only competitors will be allowed to handle/ride horses during any portion (including warm-ups) of the contest. Anyone else on the horse will be cause for disqualification.

Personal Interview

1. Contestants shall meet individually for a personal interview with the Judges. (If you would like to change your outfit to your speech outfit for the interview, you will have time to do so).

Speech

1. Contestants will present a 2 minute speech on “What they can contribute to the Truckee

Pro Rodeo.” No aids or props will be allowed.

2. Speech and modeling attire shall consist of a western dress [rodeo queen dress] and/or western skirt and shirt. Western hat, boots and belt also required.

Judging

The events to be judged are:

1. Horsemanship (as well as appearance, grooming of you and your horse.)

2. Interview (equine and rodeo knowledge.)

3. Speech. (Poise and speaking to the public.)

4. Impromptu question. (Knowledge of rodeo and Truckee Rodeo.)

5. Modeling. (As well as personality.)

Crowning of the Queen will be during Sponsor’s Dinner night, Friday, August 23, 2013.

The undersigned does hereby voluntarily assume all risks arising out of and/or connected with her participation in the Miss Truckee Rodeo Queen event, and does hereby release the Truckee Pro

Rodeo, its employees, agents, volunteers, and/or offices, and all other persons associated with the organization, for any and all claims and causes of action that may result in any injury to the undersigned or to the participating person which has been sustained or may be sustained, and from any and all damages to property belonging to the undersigned that may be a result of her participation in the Truckee Pro Rodeo events.

2013 Miss Truckee Rodeo Queen Horsemanship Pattern

1. Start from trot to middle of arena.

2. Start lopping circle on left lead.

3. Change leads for right circle.

4. Change to left lead and proceed around arena.

5. Stop and back up 10 feet.

6. Walk over to judges and dismount when asked
