De La Salle Parents’ Association Meeting
Minutes April 7, 2014 @ Del Centre
Present:
Executive Committee – Mary Manarin, Roman Havlin, Kurt Von Dem Hagen, Minal Kamath
Grade Representatives: 6 Grade Reps in attendance
Committee Chairs: Sandi Faraone (Social), Laura Meehan (Volunteer Coordinator), Roman Havlin
(Finance) Donald MacGillivray (constitution)
School Administration: Mr. Pupo (Principal)
Parents: Approximately 20 parents attended the meeting
1. Call to Order
 Mary welcomed everyone & opened the meeting with a prayer
 Mary welcomed new parents in attendance. The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for May
29, 2014. Parents are encouraged to take an active role with Parents’ Association – many
positions within the executive, committee chairs/members and Grade representatives will be
available in 2014/15 school year. Interested parents can learn about the roles and its mandate
on the Del web-site or by contacting Mary Manarin
2. Minutes from February 26, 2014:
 Jane Albright motioned to approve minutes. Seconded by Heidi Tibollo and unanimously
adopted. The minutes were approved as presented and passed unanimously
3. Recognition – Chair, De La Salle Board of Directors
 Don Buckley, Chair of the De La Salle Board of Directors since 1992 will be stepping down from
the role. On behalf of the De La Salle Parents Association, Mary Manarin thanked Don for all his
contributions, and particularly for supporting the Del Parents Association. Mary presented Don
with a gift as a token of appreciation
4. Treasurer’s Report:
 Kurt presented a status. There is $60,000 in the bank. $20,000 has been committed to projects,
leaving $40,000 still unallocated.
5. Committee Updates:
 Social Committee – Learning event will be split with a social reception late April/May. The
committee will invite a speaker from guidance. Next year the committee could include
additional learning events such as discussion with teachers or invite Mr. Burns to assist parents
on how to leverage the school portal. Mary advised the group that on April 28, 2014 new grade
9 students will be writing the French proficiency test. During that time, new parents will be at
the Del shop purchasing gym uniforms. The Parent Association will host a small reception
outside the Del Shop to welcome new parents and invite them to volunteer and be part of the Del
Parent Association. This will not replace the “welcome workshop” that will occur in August.

Finance Committee – Roman introduced new processes – simplified rules and template to
request funds, e-mail transactions for processing payments through internet and PA dues can
now be processed on the internet. Sandi motioned to accept, seconded by Tina and accepted to
move ahead. Roman also presented a process where there is greater accountability with
financial reports. The Finance committee to approve financial statements and bring any issues
forward to the Executive Committee. Donald recommend that the constitution be updated to
amend guidelines for role of Treasurer be non-voting and Finance committee review and approve
financial statement and bring issues to executive. This proposal will be prepared, changes
posted on website and presented at the AGM. Margo motioned, seconded by Mary and agreed
 Communication Committee – Nothing to report
 Fundraising Committee – Mary Jo Tamin and Lisa Principe indicated that the “Spirit Wear” was
very popular and successful this year. The second order will be delivered April 28th to the
children’s homeroom. The Del gear initiative will continue next year. In addition, Mary Jo and
Lisa presented a new opportunity – Del mits and hats (similar to the popular Hudson Bay Olympic
mits). Parents were presented with several options as these products have to be pre-ordered in
units of 500. Jane Albright motioned, seconded by Lori Simone and passed to approve $4,200 to
pre-order
 Curriculum Committee – Nothing to report
 Interguild – Next workshop April 8, 2014 entitled “Brain Gym”. Mary Manarin and Mary Jo
Tamin will attend on behalf of the Parents Association.
6. Principal’s Report
 Prior to the Parents Association meeting, Mr. Pupo met with parents to discuss the “reach
ahead” program
 The Theatre De La Salle presents "Grease", Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, 2014 – Tickets
are on sale now. The theatre production is a long standing history of the school and invited
everyone to come out and support the children
 Reminded parents about the “sock hop” social for all parents. There will be live band and the
school has secured a liquor license. Encouraged all parents to come out – a great social evening
for parents.
 Grade 12 university acceptance progressing well. 80 -85% of grade 12 students have already
received acceptance to their university choice.
 Mr. Pupo wished everyone a Happy Easter with family and friends
7. Next Parent Association Meeting and Annual General Meeting will be Thursday, May 29, 2014. All
Del parents are encouraged to attend

 There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
