The World I Come From
Hi! My name is Alex Bernabe, I was born on September 25, 1996. I was born and raised
in Lindsay California. I come from a family of four. I have an older sister and two older brothers
as well. I’m the youngest child out of my brothers and sister. My family and I have lived in
Lindsay ever since I was born here. Lindsay is a really small town which is located in the central
valley. There’s not much here to talk about because the town isn’t that big. Growing up in
Lindsay seeing all the orange groves and olive fields and seeing people working made me think
about lot of things in life.
I made many mistakes my freshman and sophomore year that I really regret do.
Throughout my first two year of high school I would mess around a lot in my classes and really
didn’t take school so serious. Making those mistakes made me get really behind in some of my
classes my junior and senior year. My junior year I started to take things more serious because I
was getting closer to my senior year, which meant I’m going to be graduating soon and I need to
seriously step it up if I want to graduate my senior year. I was falling behind mostly in my math
classes and some of my elective classes. I overcame many obstacles throughout my high school
years, such as finishing algebra one. I struggled throughout my freshman, sophomore and junior
year to complete algebra one. I was only struggling those years because I really didn’t try my
hardest in my math class and would mess around a lot with my friends. I started to realized my
junior year that I seriously need to step it up and try finishing algebra as soon as possible. I ended
up finishing algebra at the end of my junior year. Another obstacle I am overcoming at the
moment is getting back on track to be able to graduate. I am in rolled in night school so I can get
back on track by the end of this semester. Graduating means a lot to me and would be horrified if
I’m not going to be able to graduate with my friends. My counselor helped me a lot in trying to
get back on pace to graduate because they enrolled me into night school. My friends have also
helped me a lot because they tell me to stay after school with them so we can do some work so
we can stay on pace and not fall behind. My friends really care about me graduating high school
as I do to them. We all help each other and also motivate each other in doing really well in
school. I really look forward to being back on pace to graduate because I don’t want to be
struggling the last minute of my senior year.
As I was attending Lindsay High School I set a lot of goals for myself in the future. One
of the goals I set for myself was to do my best in high school and be able to graduate and walk
with all my friends. Not being able to achieve that goal would be the biggest nightmare for me
because I really want to graduate and walk. Another goal I set for myself after I graduate high
school is to attend the Universal Technical Institute and study for automotive. My family wants
me to achieve that goal in life because I’ll be the first one to attend a college in my family and I
really want to make my whole family proud because I did something good with my life. If I
don’t end up attending the Universal Technical Institute, I plan to attend community college for
two years so I can later transfer to a four year university and try to get my bachelor’s degree in
something. Those are my main goals in life right now because I really want to do something
good in my life and be successful in the future.
My family is one my biggest motivator’s because they all want me to do well in life after
I graduate high school. I always talk to my brothers about wanting to attend the Universal
Technical Institute after high school. I really like work with cars when I have the chance to and
learn lot of new thing about cars. My brother always tells me that I should really try going to the
Universal Technical Institute because he want me to make everyone in my family really proud.
He told me that he would help me with everything I need to do just so I will be able to attend that
college. Universal Technical Institute is my first priority after high school and I’m hopping I get
a really good job in the future. I don’t want to be struggling in life and have to depend on other
people. I would rather depend on myself and not ask other people to help me do thing.
