We Care, We Can,
We Celebrate
Principal’s Message
Dear families,
After some cold January weeks we are now moving into February, the month of love. The
beautiful words of St. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians help us reflect on love – in our
families, with our friends, and in our community. “Love is patient”. Let us be slow to judge, but
quick to listen. “Love is kind”. Let our words be gentle and our actions thoughtful. “Love does not boast, it is not
proud.” Let us have hearts that are humble and see the good in others. “Love is not easily angered, it keeps no records
of wrongs.” Let us forgive others as the Lord forgives us.
Celebrate love this month. Happy Valentine’s Day, and enjoy time with your families this Family Day!
Blessings,
Todd D. Goodwin
Principal

The next steps will be for the Board to consider these recommendations at the February Policy/Corporate Services

Please keep our grade 2 and grade 7 students in your prayers, as they prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and
Confirmation respectively.
The grade 2’s will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday, March 28th at 10:00 am at St. John’s

Calling All Pancake Chefs
Tuesday, February 17th is Shrove Tuesday. Holy Trinity will be marking the coming of the
Lenten Season by celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a pancake snack for our students. Each
student will receive two pancakes, but this should be viewed as a snack and not their lunch.
We do need help! If you can help with the cooking of pancakes, please let the office know.
The time commitment on Tuesday would be from 9:30 am – 12:00 noon. Also, we would
appreciate the use of electric griddles or frying pans if you have them. Please label all pans and cords that you send in.
Thank you!
Jump Rope for Heart and Health
Holy Trinity will once again show their big hearts by participating in Healthy Heart month.
Students from grades 1-6 will participate in a Jump Rope-a-thon on Thursday, February 5th.
Students, through their skipping, will raise funds for the Heart and Stroke foundation, as well as
earn prizes for themselves. Thanks to Mrs. Bellai-Zilio and Mrs. Bens for leading us in this
project.
Pawndering their next moves!
Our chess club will soon be underway, as our students develop their skills in playing the game of chess. Thanks
to Mr. Schmalz and Mr. Matteis for their leadership and coaching. Our Holy Trinity chess team will
participate in the Wellington Catholic Chess Tournament taking place at St. Ignatius Catholic School, Guelph
on Tuesday, March 10th. We wish our students well as they prepare for the tournament.

Houseleague / Intramurals
Intramurals continue to be a big part of extra-curricular enjoyment for our Hurricanes. House league offers a fun
recess alternative for students in the primary, junior and intermediate divisions, as well as an opportunity for them to
participate in a team based environment. A big thanks goes to all the intermediate students who help organizing this
year’s intramurals, as well as the staff members that are assisting with supervision during lunch.
FLYERS
We have been given a number of flyers form various community groups. We are unable to photocopy all of these for each
family, due to the costs we would incur. However, they are available in the plastic wall bins beside the office. Thank you.
Holy Trinity Catholic School is open for JK SK Registration. If you have not yet registered your child, or know
someone that is looking to register their child, please come into the office at your earliest convenience.
Strong Start Program
The Strong Start program supports our young students with sound and letter recognition. The program is designed to be
implemented by volunteers who do not need to have related experience. Volunteer coaches work with one child at a time
and follow prescribed activities using the materials provided. We have a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers who
keep this program going, but we need more! If you are interested in assisting with this program, please contact Mrs.
Schell-Jackett at the school. We are planning to begin our next set of sessions in mid-February. Training is provided!
Thank you!
Parking Reminder
Please note that before and after school we need to allow access to buses and taxi cabs in our front loop. The parking
loop in front of the school is also a fire route. If you need to QUICKLY drop off or pick up for an appointment
after 9:15 am and before 3:00 pm, we will make this allowance, but parking is not permitted outside of these
times. Thank you for your cooperation.
The smaller of our two parking lots, adjacent to Ken Danby School is for parents/guardians of Junior Kindergarten and
Senior Kindergarten students only. You MUST have a student in JK/SK on your child’s designated day to use this lot, in
addition to a tag that the office has issued to those parents. Once the spots are taken in this lot, we would kindly ask
that you do not enter it unless a spot opens up. There is simply too much congestion in this lot for people to move, and
the safety of our children is the number one concern for all of us.
Regarding the larger parking lot, we would kindly ask that parents/guardians fill all available spots before parking along
the curb. If you are parking along the curb it should only be to drop off or pick up, not to remain waiting for an extended
period of time, as we want to keep traffic flowing through the lot. We would also ask that you do not DOUBLE PARK
along the curb. This is unsafe with so many children and parents walking through the parking lot.
Finally, please understand that parking is a privilege and not a right. No one is ENTITLED to a parking spot, and cases of
verbal abuse and non-compliance may result in an individual(s) being given a trespass warning, or in extreme cases a
trespass notice. Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation with this matter.
Reminder: There is to be NO SMOKING anywhere on school property.
Lost and Found
Please check the collection of lost and found clothing items. There are many fine pieces of clothing left behind by
students. Please label all clothing so that it can be returned to the rightful owner. Once again, items will be displayed
during Interview Night. PLEASE take a look!
