Day 1
EMAIL SUBJECT: We’re all in this together.
Let’s keep it simple: United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County helps people - tens
of thousands of people in our community each year.
This short animation will show you how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWlaUgoIpfU
Your gift to United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County’s Community Impact Fund is
the most efficient and powerful way to invest in our community.
What is the Community Impact Fund?
The Community Impact Fund is a general funding pot that supports 220+ programs at over 110
local agencies in the areas of Education, Income and Health. United Way leverages these
dollars strategically to address our community’s most pressing needs while making sure that the
funds ensure results and are used efficiently.
Over the next 2 weeks, I will be sharing information about what United Way does with your
donation. Each email (including this one!) will have a quiz question at the bottom. Complete the
quiz at the end of the campaign to win some fun prizes.
Change only happens if we all join together. I encourage you to join me in supporting United
Way’s 2015 Community Campaign.
Thank you for your generosity.
Sincerely,

Day 2
EMAIL SUBJECT: Community Success across County Lines
On February 1, 2015, United Way in Waukesha County and United Way of Greater Milwaukee
merged to create United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. The fundamental
reason for this merger is simple: together, we can make the most meaningful, lasting impact in
Education, Income and Health across our four-county region by sharing resources, talent,
relationships, best practices and developing stronger partnerships. We believe the merger will
help us to better address challenges facing our communities that do not recognize city
boundaries and county lines.
Thousands of individuals and families live in Waukesha and work in Milwaukee, as well as the
other way around. In fact, last year 11,361 of residents living in Waukesha County zip codes
traveled to Milwaukee to receive services from United Way programs, initiatives and partner
agencies.
United Way remains committed to identifying and focusing more dollars on the root causes of
Waukesha County community problems, including important initiatives such as Helping Kids
Succeed, Financial Stability and the Thriving Waukesha County initiative. It is our vision that our
collective community will generously raise more together thus increasing funding for all United
Way funded partner agencies during the 2015 campaign.
I urge you to join me and the 70,000+ United Way donors who LIVE UNITED.
Thank you again for your generosity.

Day 5
EMAIL SUBJECT: Volunteer: Do good, feel good!
Volunteers transform communities. Since 2010, United Way volunteers have built and
maintained 10 Born Learning Trails in Waukesha County parks, giving local children another
great opportunity to play, learn and grow.
Right from birth, children are constantly learning, and what they learn during those years
depends on the experiences they have each and every day. The Born Learning Trail contains
ten interactive signs for activities that adults can engage in with young children to turn an
outdoor trip into a fun learning experience.
Check out this video of volunteers coming together to build Born Learning Trails in Waukesha
County.
There are lots of ways for you, your family or coworkers to volunteer any day of the week, doing
a variety of different projects in Waukesha County and beyond.

Day 6
EMAIL SUBJECT: Does education still matter?
Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. Strong, productive
communities are dependent upon a skilled workforce that can compete in a global economy. It’s
not enough to intervene in high school. It is critical to reach children early—even before they
start school.
Here are some statistics:


Of the children that participated in United Way-funded La Casa de Esperanza's Children
and Youth program: 96% exhibit age appropriate skills or progress toward age
appropriate skills.
Of the children that participated in United Way-funded YMCA of Central Waukesha
County, Inc.'s Child Care program: 82% displayed progress resulting in improved
listening skills and listening without interrupting others.
Bonus! Your gift to the United Way Education Impact Area will be doubled by Johnson
Controls, Inc.

Day 7
EMAIL SUBJECT: Do you know someone struggling at the end of the month? They’re not
alone.
Meet Jose: https://www.unitedwaygmwc.org/Stories/Jose
Financial instability is a major concern for many individuals and families across our four-county
region. Our community will only prosper and grow if all families are financially stable. Fewer
financial stresses, like worrying about where money will come from to pay the electric bill, lead
to healthier lives, improved work performance and better education outcomes.
In 2014-15, United Way is investing in 49 Income programs across Waukesha, Milwaukee,
Ozaukee and Washington Counties. Your donation to the Community Impact Fund or the
Income focus area will help hard working individuals and families on their road to stability.
Bonus! Your gift to United Way’s Income focus area will be doubled by MillerCoors.

Quiz Question: Which United Way initiative did Jose use for help with his financial troubles?
Day 8
EMAIL SUBJECT: How are you feeling today?
The health of individuals is a strong indicator of the health of a community. To improve the
health of our community we must all become more aware of health risks, starting from before
birth. Whether it is a teen struggling to make the right decision, a senior in need of home health
care or a survivor of abuse seeking a safer environment, United Way is working to improve the
quality of life for all by investing in 83 Health support programs.
Make your gift work overtime! Your gift to the Health Improvement Fund will be multiplied five
times by the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership!
Another way United Way helps our community stay healthy is through volunteerism. A report by
UnitedHealth Group, Doing Good is Good for You: 2013 Health and Volunteering Study, found
that 76% of US adults who volunteer report that volunteering has made them feel physically
healthier, and 78% report that volunteering lowers their levels of stress.

Day 9
EMAIL SUBJECT: Reaching out a hand in Waukesha
United Way is a proud partner in two initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in
Waukesha County: Financial Stability Initiative, which teaches families and individuals who are
struggling to meet their basic needs the skills needed to increase income, build savings, and
gain assets; the Helping Kids Succeed Initiative, which helps students achieve in school and life
by promoting positive parent involvement, mediation and increasing the graduation rate.
We have all known someone who has needed help. Perhaps that someone has even been us.
With a contribution to United Way this year, you are helping to write a happy ending to the
stories of so many in the Waukesha County community and beyond.

EMAIL SUBJECT: Great things happen when we Live United
Team,
I’m amazed at the generosity and dedication of Company X employees. We rallied together to
meet a common goal and that goal is not just about a number, it’s about helping people in our
community, from the west side of Waukesha County to the shores of Lake Michigan.
As promised, attached is a quiz covering the past 2 weeks of emails. Each person who
completes this quiz gets a small prize and will be entered to win X.
Your gifts are going to strengthen and improve the lives of a child who was diagnosed with a
hearing impairment, a women seeking shelter from an abusive partner, medication for an elderly
person and so much more.
Thank you for your support and generosity. It’s truly remarkable what we have done for people
