Challenge Success Seeks Part-time Schools Program Director
The School of Education at Stanford University seeks a Schools Program Director for the
Challenge Success project. Challenge Success is a research and intervention project that
challenges the conventional, high-pressure, and often debilitating path to success, and offers
practical research-based solutions for schools, parents, and youth. We are looking for a
resourceful, self-directed, and experienced educator to oversee and support the 70 schools that
have partnered with Challenge Success. The Schools Program Director will drive new and
improved programs for member schools, provide direct support and resources to schools, and
plan bi-annual school conferences. The Schools Program Director will receive assistance from
volunteers, the Challenge Success Program Director, and co-founders Madeline Levine, Jim
Lobdell, and Denise Pope. The Schools Program Director must be capable of balancing highlevel, programmatic work with regular administrative tasks.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in school reform, with particular interest in
helping schools modify policy and practice to increase engagement and well-being and align with
the development of 21st century skills. We seek a committed individual with the passion to take a
successful school reform model and hone and expand it for deeper and more far-reaching impact
in school communities.
Responsibilities include the following:

35%: Build relationships and provide direct support to the 15 to 18 active Challenge
Success schools, including assisting with action planning, troubleshooting challenges,
monitoring progress, and planning on-site professional development and parent
education events

25%: Plan and execute the bi-annual Challenge Success schools conferences, including
all programmatic elements and event logistics

15%: Develop new online resources for member schools, including relevant research,
best practices from the field, and tailored resources for educators, parents, and students

10%: Market the Challenge Success schools program to engage new schools

10%: Recruit, train, and manage the coaches who support individual Challenge Success
schools

5%: Participate in strategic meetings with the Program Director and Challenge Success
co-founders
Qualifications:
 3-5 years experience as a teacher or school administrator
 Experience leading, consulting, and/or participating in on-site school reform initiatives
 Outstanding organizational and project management skills
 Ability to work independently and collaboratively
 Outstanding written and interpersonal skills
 Knowledge of best practices in school reform and Problem-Based Learning and
Understanding By Design preferred
 Experience delivering professional development workshops preferred
 Four-year college degree or equivalent required
