AUDITION LIST
Auditions for the CU Honors Band Festival membership will include performance of the indicated solo/etude from
the list below AND the chromatic scale ascending and descending. The chromatic scale should be from the
student’s lowest note to their highest note and back to their lowest note.

Timpani: Also must demonstrate skills on long and short rolls, evidence of good ear, knowledge of simple intervals
(3rds, 4ths, 5ths) and tuning ability.
Snare Drum: Also must demonstrate skills of rolls and rudiments.
Mallet Percussion: Must also demonstrate facile performance of the three-octave B major scale and arpeggio.
Please, communicate to your students that they must attend all rehearsal sessions. Students who are absent for
any reason other than the SAT or ACT exams will be removed from the ensemble. Students who are taking the
SAT (12/3/11) or ACT (12/10/11) should mark this on their application during registration and should report
to the rehearsal immediately after the SAT/ACT exam is completed.
