TRAVELLING The general activity of moving from place to place is called travelling. On can travel by air, by sea or on land. The reasons of travelling are very different. People are travelling for fun, to relax and escape the everyday routine and stress; to see the world, different cultures and religions. Some are travelling to meet new people and make friends and another just to visit relatives or friends. We know different types of travelling: A long distance travelling is called a journey. When someone goes on a journey you wish him a safe journey. A journey can be make on land, by air or by sea. We know different types of sea journey; a fairly short sea journey, usually by ferry is called a crossing and a long sea journey is called a voyage. But if you want to go on a holidays to exotic islands, you have to go on a cruise. It is guaranteed you will have the time of life. Unless you are not seasick. Next one is trip. This is a short journey, which you do not usually make. You can go on a business, school or on a shopping trip. A journey by air is called flight. When you travel by plane you have to book a flight in advance. One hour before your flight you check in. If you travel abroad you go through the customs, so you must have a valid passport and the entrance visa. Be sure that you don’t forget your passport and that you on airport on time, if you arrive too late to get on plane you miss a flight. When you are travelling you can use public or personal transport. You can also choose between different types of vehicles. On land you can travel by bus, car, and coach or by train. When you travel by air you can choose between plane and helicopter; and for journey by sea you can choose yacht, ferry, boat and cruiser. If it is possible use public transport, because it contributes to cleaner environment. Keep in mind that all the vehicles produce exhaust emissions. A person who travels is called a traveller. We differ the following types of travellers. A tourist is one who goes sightseeing and takes a lot of photos. Another expression for tourist is a holidaymaker. A person who travels by getting free lifts in passing vehicles is called a hitch-hiker. A rambler. That is a person who walks in the countryside for pleasure. A pilgrim is a person who journeys to a holy place for religious reasons. A person who travels some distance to work is called a commuter. If you travel you have to choose among different types of accommodation, like hotels, hostels, guest-houses, B&B homes, camp-site... You can spend your holidays at the seaside, in a spa, in the mountains, in the country or in some other popular holiday resort at home or abroad. Travelling offers an escape from ones daily routine, and relaxation but on the other hand it can also bring problems. You may stuck in a traffic jam during a rush hour. You may park in tow away zone and your car can be towed away, or get clamped. You can get lost, especially in big cities If you don’t pay attention to the road signs you may end in an accident if you travel by ship, you can get seasick if you travel by air, your flight may be delayed due to weather conditions To sum up, travelling can be an exciting experience, but remember; wherever you go, east, west, home is best!
