Visit to Rwaished on Aug 31, 2010
On Aug 30, 2010 we (Munir Rusan, Jordan University of Science and Technology and Eng.
Ratib Edwan, Head of Water Quality, Ministry of Water and Irrigation) visited the Brackish
water well site at Rwaished in the eastern part of Jordan about 70 km prior to the Border with
Iraq.
The visit program was as follow:
A. Visit the Water Office at Rwaished and meet with officer there Mr. Slaiman AlHarahsheh who accompanied us during out tour in Rwaished
B. Visit the Rwaished Governorate and Municipalty
C. Visit the Brackish water site which is located in the Salhiyyat Al-Naeem
village/community which is about 35 km from Rwaished

Remarks:
1. The distance from Irbid to Rwaushed is 300 kms.
2. The distance from Rwaished to Salhiyyat Al-Naeem village where the brackish water
well is located is 35 kms
3. There are about 20 houses, some of them are evacuated during the summer and fall
seasons due to lack of water sources and are occupied during winter and spring
seasons
4. The is a Desalination unit of Rwaished well which supply water to Rwaished
community but not to Salhiyyat Al-Naeem
5. About 200 meters from the well there is an Electricity Generator
6. The village also include a school, Mosque and Shops
7. Rwaisher Municipality population is about 5000. However, 30,000 people used to
live in Rwaished in the past but due to lack of water(in addition to poverty,
unemployment, low income especially after the border with Iraq was closed) many
people has immigrated into other cities. Many families are getting fund assistances
from the Government at a monthly rate of 180JDs for any family with more than five
members or 50 JDs for individual
8. During our meeting with people contacted I explained the idea, objectives, and goals
of the project. The initial reaction and feedback from them was positive and were
enthusiastic about the project implementation
9. During this visit we visited two Desalination Units in that area:
a. Desalination unit of Rwaished wells
b. Desalination unit of Al-Safawi (100 km from Rwaished)
