Цели: активизация лексики по теме «Страна изучаемого языка»; актуализация
изученных речевых структур; закрепление навыков выразительного
рассказывания стихотворений; тренировка навыков диалогической и
монологической речи, навыков аудирования; актуализация страноведческого
материала; развитие интереса учащихся к изучению английского языка.
Оборудование: презентация к уроку, карта страны изучаемого языка.
I. Организационный момент
- Good morning, boys and girls! We are very glad to see you. Today we suggest you
to travel around London.
It is the capital of Great Britain. But before we start our travelling let's repeat the
words that will be necessary for us.

Ученик (ца) подходит к карте и называет столицы и страны ,входящие в
состав Великобритании.
- Look at the map. There you can see Great Britain which consists of 4 parts:
Scotland is on the north, England is on the south, Wales is near England and the
small part of the country is Northern Ireland is on the east. All the parts have their
capitals: England - London, Wales -Cardiff, Scotland - Edinburgh, Northern Ireland Belfast.

- Now let's continue our travelling and speak about the most marvelous sights of
Great Britain. We will show you the presentation about the United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Ireland and name the sights. You should watch the places of
interest and must help me and speak about them.

The red rose is the symbol of England.
London is the capital of Great Britain. It is one of the largest cities and one of the
most wonderful cities in the world.
The British queen is the head of state.
Here you can see the Royal family: the British queen and her husband, the princess
of Wales - Diana, her sons - William and Hurry.
Here you can see the London underground. It is one of the busiest in the world.
Buckingham palace is the official residence of the Royal family.
The ravens live on the territory of the Tower of London.
It is interesting to watch the ceremony which dates back to the 17 century. It is called
Changing of the Guard. The ceremony takes place in Buckingham Palace every day
at 11.30 a. m. and lasts for 30 minutes.
Big Ben is a famous clоck. Here you can see a famous bus which is called a double decker.
The Tower of London is a place of cultural and historical interest.
The Tower of London is very old and has a long and cruel history.
Westminster Abbey is a symbol of England. The coronation of all
British Kings and Queens take place in Westminster Abbey.
The Houses of Parliament stand beside the river Thames.
The country's leaders speak in the Houses of Parliament.
Tower bridge is Britain's best-known bridge.
Red telephone boxes are very nice too.
You can see Trafalgar Square. In the centre of the square there is a column of
Admiral Nelson.
The British Museum is famous for its library and reading halls.
It is the Natural History Museum. Here you can learn about the history of plants,
animals and minerals.
In Madame Tussaud's Museum you can see life-size figures of famous people.
There are some wonderful parks in the British capital. St. James's Park is one of the
royal parks.
Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are the largest parks in London. In Hyde Park
you can see the Speaker's Corner where speakers can discuss different problems.
The London Zoo is one of the biggest zoos in the world.
It is Scotland.
The symbol of Scotland is a thistle.
The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh.
The kilt is the Scottish national costume for men.
The famous Scottish monster lives in Loch Ness.
It is Northern Ireland.
The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast.
The symbol of Northern Ireland is a shamrock.
You can see Wales. It's a country of castles..
The capital of Wales is Cardiff.
The emblem of Wales is a daffodil.
Wales is famous for castles.
V. Историческая справка
- Now let's listen to some new facts about the most interesting places of London as
the capital of Great Britain. There is a legend if the ravens disappear, Great Britain
will face a great tragedy and as long as there are ravens at the Tower Britain will
continue to exist. There are six of them according to the order of King Charles II. The
ravens are fed twice a day. Tourists find the ravens patrolling the territory and
jumping on the grass.
1. Old traditions and ceremonies are kept up in the Tower of London. One of them is
the Ceremony of the Keys. It takes place every night at 10 p.m. The Headwarder
comes out with a bunch of keys and an old lantern. The sentry calls: «Halt! Who
comes here?» The Headwarder replies: «The Keys». «Whose keys?» - asks the
sentry. «Queen Elizabeth's Keys» is the answer. After that the sentry says: «Advance,
Queen Elizabeth's Keys. All's well.»
2. Big Ben is a part of the Houses of Parliament. Big Ben is the name given to the
clock on one of the towers of the Houses of Parliament. Sir Benjamin Hall was a very
tall and stout man. He worked at the Houses of Parliament. His nickname was «Big
Ben».
