Tim Burton is a very unique and well known director. Not by the amount of movies he
does but by the way he uses the stylistic devices. No one like him uses these stylistic devices like
he does. For example Tim Burton uses tone, characterization, and setting. He uses them very
effectively in his movie Edward Sissorhand’s.
For example, one kind of tone that Tim Burton used in Edward Sissorhand’s was the
neighborhood ladies. They were very gossipy and rude. You could tell that they were never
taught etiquette. Once they saw a new person come to the neighborhood they would call one
neighbor to the next. They would constantly harass Peg to see her visitor. Peg was a very neutral
person that Tim Burton made she was very protective over Edward. They rudely came to her
house and invited them to a barbeque that peg never was going to have. Once they met Edward
and got their hands on him they were obsessed. They wouldn’t leave him alone. Once one found
another advantage that Edward could do with his Sissorhand’s they would all copycat each other
and use Edward. They were obsessed with him to the point where he had no more to give them
and then they realized that and turned against him.
Moreover, an example of characterization that Tim Burton used was Edward. Tim Burton
made Edward into this very unique character. He looked very gothic and creepy, but as soon as
he talked his voice was so gentle and soft. His voice was so different that it was like it wasn’t
even him. He was sweet and had a etiquette personality with a gothic image. The only thing that
made Edward unique was that he didn’t have hands had scissors. The scissors were the only
thing that made people obsess over him.
Another example of Tim Burton’s stylistic devices is setting. The main setting in Edward
Sissorhand’s is the neighborhood, where Peg and the rest of the neighborhood ladies live. All the
houses had a bright color like pink, yellow, orange, and blue. The color of their house was the
same of color of their car. Seeing these colors Tim Burton had a good idea because Edwards
mansion was away from everything else. It was dark, snowy, and look disserted totally opposite
then the neighborhood.
In conclusion, Tim Burton is a very unique and popular director. He has used many other
stylistic devices in the movie Edward Scissorhand’s. Tone, characterization, and setting are just
three that he uses in Edward Scissorhand’s. He has a very different, and unique way of showing
his stylistic devices. No one else like Tim Burton uses stylistic devices in the way that he does.
For example, one tone in Edward Sissorhand’s is the neighborhood ladies. They are very
noisy and gossipy. Once they realized that there was someone knew in their neighborhood that
they didn’t know and that wasn’t planed to come they would go crazy. They would call one
neighbor to the next till everyone knew about it. They would constantly harass Peg till they meet
who the secret someone was. Peg is a lady who is a very neutral person and brought Edward to
her home. They were so rude that they just invited their self to a barbeque that Peg wasn’t even
going to have. They had no idea what etiquette is. Once they got their hands on Edward they
were obsessed. They wouldn’t leave him alone they would constantly make him do things for
him and blame things on him. They would make him cut their hair, one after the other getting
their hair cut always having to do what the others were doing. They used him till the point where
he had no more left to give them. At that point they turned against him like he was some scary
person that needed to leave.
