You can subscribe on the sustainability website: http://www.missouristate.edu/Sustainability/Publications-and-Documents.htm ☐ We keep up with Missouri State University Sustainability on social media. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MoStateSustain Twitter: https://twitter.com/MSUSustain Recycling ☐ We maintain recycling bins in common areas where trash bins are present (i.e. kitchens, break rooms, conference rooms, mailrooms, and copy rooms). ☐ We ensure that recyclable materials are properly segregated and taken to appropriate collection areas. ☐ In our office and halls, recycling bins are available and clearly marked. ☐ We periodically review proper recycling practices at staff meetings to ensure all members are aware of the rules and get their questions answered. ☐ We provide recycling bins at events and meetings sponsored by our department or residence hall. ☐ We have someone in the organization who is responsible for getting the collected materials to the appropriate collection areas. ☐ When we need to dispose a surplus of furniture and equipment, we contact Property Control http://www.missouristate.edu/property/ ☐ We check to see if furniture can be salvaged and reused elsewhere. Events, Meetings, & Transportation ☐ Before events and meetings we send an email reminding attendees to bring mugs or reusable cups if beverages will be served. ☐ We walk or use the Bear Line shuttle whenever possible as job duties require travel to various areas of campus. ☐ We purchase napkins/paper towels with at least 30 percent recycled content. Page |5 Energy ☐ We shut off our monitors and/or manually send our computers into energy saving modes when not in use. ☐ We turn monitors off at night before we leave. ☐ We have activated appropriate power management settings on our computers: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=power_mgt.pr_power_mgt_users ☐ We have sleep mode enabled on all copiers and printers after five minutes or less of inactivity. ☐ All lights are turned off when not in use, including common areas such as kitchens, conference rooms, storage closets, and bathrooms. ☐ Where lights switches are automatic, we have asked Facilities Management to set them to the lowest reasonable interval. ☐ We send pre-holiday/pre-break emails to our staff reminding everyone to turn off all lights and electronic devices. ☐ We close blinds when we leave our office, classroom, or residence rooms for the day or when we are gone for significant periods. Purchasing ☐ For printing and copying, our office only uses paper containing at least 30 percent recycled content. ☐ Before purchasing new furniture or equipment, we check to see if Property Control has any surplus in stock or if we can obtain any. ☐ Before purchasing new furniture, we consider sustainable furniture options. ☐ When possible we select Energy Star certified models when purchasing appliances and equipment (printers, copiers, microwaves, etc.) Waste Reduction & Publication ☐ We print or copy to both sides of a page whenever possible. ☐ Double-siding is set as a default on our computers. ☐ Visual prompt is present on our copy machines to remind members of office to double-side print when possible. ☐ We reuse paper that has text on only one side when possible to save paper. ☐ We keep a scrap paper pile near our printer and/or copier. ☐ We use inter-office instead of regular envelopes whenever possible and promote the redistribution of inter-office envelopes in our organization. ☐ If we publish a newsletter, we offer an electronic version that readers can select instead of the paper version.
