Job Title Airport Operations Intern Department Operations Updated April 2015 Supervisor Operations Manager Position Summary Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Airport Operations Internship will commence on June 1st, 2015 and consist of up to 12 weeks of professional introduction into airport operations, airport maintenance, public safety, and general aviation. This is an educational position in which the applicant will rotate through Airport Authority Departments including; FWA Operations, Maintenance, Public Safety, and SMD Operations to learn the essential functions of each department. Duties include but are not limited to the following: conduct daily airfield inspections, participate in minimal ARFF training, emergency response, data entry, various safety & administrative auditing, fueling, and maintenance responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities May Include: FWA Operations Department Assists in safety and security inspections during construction including monitoring and escorting contractors and monitors vehicle and equipment traversing on or about the Airport Operations Area (AOA). Monitors commercial activity on the airport to ensure compliance with the commercial operating permits. Assists trained personnel in emergency response or as directed by the incident commander. Assists with Airport’s Driver’s Training Program for both Movement and Non-Movement Area driving privileges. Coordinates with badge-holders to carry out the written and practical testing requirements as needed. Ensures all persons with driving privileges comply with annual recurrence training and testing. Observes drivers in the AOA for proper adherence to airfield driving procedures. Maintenance Department Mowing and trimming of grass on the airfield and maintaining landscaping around public areas of the airport Maintains equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition; Vehicle Maintenance and data entry Assists in annual building inspections Public Safety Department Responds to all airport emergencies with Incident Commander or Officer in Charge Will assist with document management and make corrections/ edits as necessary under the guidance of the PSD Manager. Assist with airport badging process, including initial badge request to badge audits Audit Access Control system and exposure to Communications Center Smith Field Operations Conducts daily and special inspections of all facilities (airside, landside, terminal) for safety, security, aesthetics and regulatory compliance and reports findings to supervisor and takes corrective action when able or generates maintenance requests. Assists Airport Maintenance Department with facility repairs and grounds maintenance, when necessary. Conducts regular vehicle/equipment preventative maintenance inspections. Fuels aircraft, maintains fuel farm, conducts daily fuel quality controls and accepts fuel deliveries. Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and controlled manner. Ability to be dependable, attentive to detail, willingness to learn. Ability to exercise sound judgment, make decisions with confidence, show initiative, take ownership of assigned projects, follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Experience and Education Requirements High school equivalent education with work experience in aviation and airport operations; requires strong working knowledge of computer, including email. Working towards an Associate or Bachelor degree in an aviation related field is preferred. Supervision Received General - The employee carries out work assignments in accordance with the policies and objectives established by the supervisor. The employee plans and organizes the work, determines the work methods which will be employed and assists in determining priorities and deadlines.
