2) Yala Construction Co Pvt Ltd Microsurfacing, a new technology for maintenance of roads has been introduced in India under the brand name of Macroseal. Yala Construction Co. Pvt. Ltd. and Elsamex, S.A. Spain have proven expertise in this field for the past three decades around the world. Being economical, durable and quick in laying, this technology is in use the world over for a very long time as a routine form of maintenance in preference to the conventional over lays of hot mix. We at Yala Construction Co Pvt Ltd are proud to introduce ourselves as a part of Elsamex Group of companies of India. The Elsamex Group of Companies in India is a part of Elsamex SA - Spain proud to introduce ourselves as an international organization; head quartered at Spain and involved in road maintenance technologies worldwide. It specializes in preventive maintenance technology of pavements, using cold polymer modified emulsion – MACROSEAL and Operation and Maintenance of roads, highways and civil infrastructures. We are pleased to introduce “Yala Construction Co. Pvt. Ltd.” as our Indian organization engaged mainly in the field of highway design, construction and maintenance MICROSURFACING Macroseal – cold micro asphalt concrete has been extensively used in many countries viz. USA, Canada, Italy, Malta, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia etc to mention a few. Many million square meters of road have been resurfaced using this product with very good results over a period of time. A study was initiated for use of Bitumen Emulsion (Cold Process) to maintain Delhi Roads by the State Govt. / PWD as a suitable alternative method for maintenance of roads in the light of ban imposed by Hon’ble Supreme Court on Hot Mix Plants in the state of Delhi. The study was conducted by M/s Elsamex S.A. of Spain with the active involvement of Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) New Delhi. In the report specifications for the use of Cold Emulsion for maintaining various types of roads were standardized with the latest state of the art technology. The copy of the study report was presented by the foreign experts and discussed in detail at a seminar held at Vigyan Bhawan on 28th Aug. 2000 in the presence of engineering technocrats from Delhi Public Works Department, State Public Works Departments, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) & Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORT&H). The study report was accepted and a go ahead was given for the use of the technology for maintaining the roads of Delhi. Subsequently, Ministry of Road Transport & Highway (MORT&H) has also included the specifications in Clause 516 towards slurry seal. The performance of the Micro Seal over the years has been excellent and found to be of very high standards. Based on the performance & the studies carried out, the IRC brought out their tentative guidelines (Specifications) for Slurry Seal and Microsurfacing in IRC SP-81-2008. The specification is also included in the specification on road work issued by ministry of road transport highways in 2004 as Slurry Seal. INDIAN SCENARIO This technology has been used on various roads and flyovers in Delhi. The laying methodology & the quality of finished surface have been lauded by experts & users alike. The roads resurfaced with Microsurfacing at various locations in India are as follows: (i) Prithvi Raj Road and Windsor Place (ii) Punjabi Bagh Flyover (iii) August Kranti Marg (iv) Moolchand Flyover (v) Oberoi Flyover (vi) Lala Lajpat Rai Marg (vii) Mukarba Chowk (viii) Olof Palme Marg (ix) Ashram Flyover (x) J. National Highways Authority of India Microsurfacing is a fast and durable pavement preservation technique that utilizes the benefits of cold-mixes using rubber / polymer modified Bitumen Emulsion, fine aggregate and special additives, spread on the structurally sound pavement using special computerized paver, spread in a thin film. Microsurfacing provides cost effectiveness, fast application and durability where pavement is in distress or where pavement life extension is required before distress has occurred. This technology utilizes the advancements of Asphalt Emulsion technology by special mix design done in laboratory with carefully graded crushed aggregates, modified bitumen emulsion, fillers and break control additives that provides the complete sealing of surface. Hence this technique can also be used for periodic renewals of roads in place of hot mix treatments. Advantage of Microsurfacing Advantage of Micro Surfacing with a quick-traffic application as thin as 6 to 8mm layer , Micro Surfacing can increase skid resistance, color contrast, surface restoration, and service life to high – speed, heavy-traffic roadways. On airfields, dense-graded Micro Surfacing produces a skid resistant surface without loose rock that may damage aircraft engines. Because of its quick set traffic properties, Micro Surfacing can be applied in a broad range of temperatures and weather conditions, effectively lengthening the paving season. It is particularly suitable for night applications on heavy-traffic streets, highways, and airfields. The major advantages are as follows. Advantages 1. Very fast applications with best on- site pavement quality (imported computerized Microsurfacing pavers used. 2. Life span exceeds the life span of ordinary Hot-mixes. 3. Non-polluting for Environment. No heating or hot paving required. 4. Ideal for surface sealing treatment that improves skid resistance and provides surface durability. 5. Does not increase pavement height significantly (This saves from water logging, drainage and other problems). 6. Cost effective as compared to Hot-Mix. 7. Reduces noise caused by movement of traffic. The use of Microsurfacing is recommended over the DBM also as it gives a polymerized wearing coat over the DBM, thus effecting better temperature susceptibility. It increases the life of the wearing course and it is faster to lay. The road can be opened to traffic after a short while once the Microsurfacing is set. As far as costs are concern there is a saving of 20 to 25% in direct costs as compared to bituminous concrete. In addition there is a savings in the quantities of material used as also the Energy cost for producing Microsurfacing. The added benefit is the reduction in environmental pollution. Besides the above there is a saving in time for construction and opening to traff
