Kinder Foundational Skills/Language/Speaking & Listening Learning Targets-2014-15
Year Long Learning Targets
These are standards that do not have a particular emphasis in one or more quarters. They should be addressed throughout the school year.
SL1a- Students will listen to others and take turns speaking about topics and text.
SL1b- Students will demonstrate active listening and engage in a conversation with partner(s).
SL5- Students will draw a picture or create a visual display to add detail to an oral description.
L1c- Students will form regular plural nouns by adding /s /or /es/.
L2a- Students will capitalize the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I when writing.
L4a- Students will recognize multiple meaning words and apply them accurately with teacher support.
L4b- Students will use frequently occurring inflections and affixes as a clue to the meaning of an unknown word.
L5c- Students will identify real-life connections between words and their use (e.g., colorful, spicy, juicy, cozy).
L5d- Students will distinguish shades of meaning among verbs describing the same general actions. (e.g., walk, march, strut, prance) by acting out the meanings.
L6- Students will use words and phrases acquired through conversations, reading and being read to, and responding to texts.
Student Learning Targets- Quarter 1
RF1a- Students will use their index finger to track words from left to right, top to bottom/return sweep, and page by page.
RF1b- Students will point to text on a page when asked by the teacher, “Can you show me the words?”
RF1c- Students will use their index fingers to frame a word and show a space in text.
RF1d/L1a- Students will recognize, name, and print all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet. (o, a, i, e, u, m, s, t)
RF2a- Students will match 3 rhyming pairs from the picture cards given by the teacher.
RF2c- Students will blend and segment onsets and rimes of single syllable spoken words with 60% accuracy. (Example: Teacher says: /d/ /og/ Student says: “dog” Teacher says:
“cat” Students says: “/c/ /at/”)
RF2d- Students will identify the initial sound in three-phoneme (CVC) words.
RF2f- Students will blend two to three phonemes into words with 60% accuracy.
RF3a- Students will correctly produce the primary sounds for each consonant. (m, s, t)
RF3b- Students will identify the five major vowels and their short sounds. (o, a, i, e, u)
RF3c- Students will read common high frequency words by sight. (Purple Rainbow Words)
RF4- Students will read emergent reader texts with purpose and understanding. (HMR Word Picture Books)
SL2- Students will answer questions (5 W’s) about key details of text read aloud or information orally presented.
SL2a- Students will understand and follow one-step oral directions.
SL3- Students will ask and answer questions to meet their basic needs.
SL4- Students will describe familiar people, places, things, and events using at least two details.
SL6- Students will speak audibly and use simple phrases to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas.
L1b- Students will use frequently occurring nouns and verbs when speaking in complete sentences.
L1d- Students will understand and use the question words with teacher support. (e.g., who, what, where, when, why, how)
L1e- Students will understand and use frequently occurring prepositions with teacher support when speaking. (e.g., to, from, in, out, on, off, for, of, by, with)
L1f- Students will produce a complete sentence in shared language activities.
L2b- Students recognize and name a period at the end of a sentence.

RF3b- Students will identify the five major vowels and their short sounds. (o, a, i, e, u)
RF3c- Students will read common high frequency words by sight. (Yellow and Orange Rainbow Words, Preview for decodable books: how, this, find)
RF3d- Students will distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the final letters that differ. (Example: rat and ran)
RF4- Students will read emergent reader texts with purpose and understanding. (Decodable Books)

RF2e- Students will substitute the initial, medial, and final sound in simple one-syllable words to make a new word. (Example: Teacher says: “Change the /c/ in “cat” to /b/.
Student says: “bat”; Teacher says: “Change the /a/ in “cat” to /o/. What’s the new word?” Students says: “cot”; Teacher says: “Change the /t/ in “cat” to /n/. Student says “can”)

RF3c- Students will read common high frequency words by sight. (Red Rainbow Words, Preview for decodable books: take, quit)
RF3d- Students will distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the medial letters that differ.
