JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Strengthening Family Circles
Home Visitor/PSOP
General Description: The Home Visitor provides services to clients in the voluntary Parent
Support Outreach Program. PSOP serves families with at least one child ten years old or
younger who are exposed to two or more child maltreatment risk factors. Services include
Family Strengths and Need Assessments, home visits, referrals for help with transportation,
housing, parent education, child development and other supports using a case management
model. The Home Visitor is also responsible for supervision of Anpa Waste, our transitional
housing for pregnant and/or parenting teen mothers. The Division of Indian Work provides
culturally based support systems to American Indian youth and families, encouraging
educational, psychological, social and spiritual growth in a multi-cultural urban environment.
Accountability:
As an employee of the Division of Indian Work-Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, the
Home Visitor is directly responsible to the Director of Programs and Executive Director of the
Division of Indian Work. Indirectly the Home Visitor is accountable to the Division of Indian
Work Board of Directors and the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches President.
Responsibilities:
In carrying out the philosophy, goals and policies established by the Division of Indian Work
Board of Directors, the Home Visitor will be responsible for:
A.
Program
1. Services to be provided may include:
a. Intake
b. Advocacy
c. Counseling and education through weekly home visits.
d. Phone counseling
e. Primary responsibility for maintaining a client caseload
f. Assessment and case plan development
g. Provide information and referrals
h. Assist in training interns.
i. Work cooperatively with other staff in order to best serve clients/program
participants.
j. Network with other similar programs/agencies in order to increase access to a
wide array of services for American Indian parents.

Qualifications:

Four-year degree in Social Work or related field plus 2 years experience.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to American Indian people and culture.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must be flexible in varied working situations.
Must be able to model violence free behavior
Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's License and a vehicle for work.
Ability to sit for up to 1 hour(s) and to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
