MATH 0001 and MATH 0045 Neither of the courses counts towards the 126 hours required for graduation, but the grade awarded in them does count towards one’s GPA. Notice that the course descriptions for these courses are nearly identical. One of my advisees failed the one and then took the other and earned an A. Although she had requested a grade replacement, it was not automatically granted, given that the A was earned in a course with a different course number than the one with the F. I suggested that the student walk over to the Registrar’s office and request that the grade replacement be granted, given the identity or near identity of the courses. I am happy to report that the grade replacement was then granted. From: Anderson, Angela R. They also are not part of block hour billing with the Cashier’s office, since they have a separate fee associated with them. Example, a student is taking 12 hours – 10 of other courses, plus Math 0045. They are billed at the less than full time rate for 9-11 hours, plus have the special fee for remedial Math. However, we report the students as enrolled full time (hours), and the GPA is calculated including the grade in remedial math. So, the grade does count towards the overall 2.0 GPA, required for a student to graduate from ECU, but not in the minimum hours for graduation. Hope this helps, Angela Angela R. Subject: Grade Point Averages and Courses Whose Hours Do Not Count Towards Graduation Hi Angela, Among the requirements for graduation are earning at least 126 hours and achieving at least a 2.0 GPA. Hours from some courses (Math 0001 and 0045, for example) do not count towards graduation. My query is, are the grades earned in these courses counted in computation of the required GPA of 2.0 or more? They are counted in the GPA reported on transcripts, but two of my colleagues have told me that those GPAs (on the transcripts) are not correctly calculated (because they include grades for courses that do not count towards graduation).
