In September 2010, SOA will be hosting the Master of Science in Clinical Optometry degree program,
awarded by the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. This is the fifth Singapore
course that SOA is collaborating with Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
PCO is the founding college of Salus University. Established in 1919, PCO was the first non-profit and
independent optometry college in the United States. In 1923, it was again the first to confer the Doctor
of Optometry degree. In the early 1990s, PCO established the international Master of Science in
Clinical Optometry (MSc Clinical Optom) program and offers it to many countries in Europe and Asia
to improve the local standards in optometry.
LEARN CLINICAL SKILLS FROM PROFESSORS AND DOCTORS OF OPTOMETRY
The MSc Clinical Optom is a higher degree that provides optometric practitioners with advanced
education and clinical skills to diagnose and manage ocular conditions. The program comprises three
principle components: lectures, clinical training, and scholarly research. All courses are fully taught by
the Professors and Doctors of Optometry from PCO-Salus University, USA..

Course Duration

Total academic length MSc 2 Years; 1 Year Bridging program for Diploma entrants
o
Actual course length 2 Years; Incorporates Bridging modules for Diploma entrants
Course Mode / Delivery
o
Part Time; Allows full time work and full time income
o
Intensive lectures usually over the weekend extending to a few weekdays, of six to
eight hours each day
o
Twice clinical diagnostic procedures course of one week (five week days) each
o
Twice patient care, research presentation and case studies presentation at Salus
University campus, Philadelphia USA, two weeks each.



Accepts Bachelor degree in Optometry

Accepts Diploma in Optometry
o
Prospective students must be registered with the OOB and a member of SOA
University Accreditation
o
Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Schools

Local Accreditation
o
OOB accreditation as Additional Qualifications; need to register to use
BSc Optom (USA) and MSc Clinical Optom (USA) abbreviations in practice
o
Degrees awarded by University/Institution accredited by Middle States Association of
Colleges and Schools are accepted by civil service


Course Fees

Bachelor degree in Optometry or equivalent – USD $18,000.
o
BSc Optom from PCO, including Salus University scholarship - USD $16,000
o
Diploma in Optometry – USD$21,000.
o
Above exclude USD $150 application fees, USD $400 graduation fees, administration
fee and miscellaneous fees for printing and venue booking.
